Gumarang Train at a Glance
The Gumarang train service ferries passengers from Jakarta to Surabaya and vice versa. It started operating in 2001 under the name Jayabaya Utara, but it was renamed and equipped with executive classes on top of its existing business class. As one of the larger trains in the fleet, it can carry 3,000 passengers or more on a single trip. It currently only departs once a day from each terminal station, with the train from Jakarta leaving in the evening and the train from Surabaya leaving in the afternoon. Both stations are centrally located, with many hotels, cafes, and shopping malls found nearby. For Surabaya in particular, Surabaya Pasar Turi Station is close to the Old Town district, where visitors can find stunning colonial-era buildings.
