The Urban Townhouse Is strategically located in the heart of Melaka on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. Built long and narrow, the historical townhouse has three characteristic air well courtyards that interspace the long narrow throughway to the back. These allow fresh air to circulate through the building as the air wells open up to the sky and also allow sunlight to stream in, providing natural ventilation and lighting to the interior. Part of the restoration efforts of Gingerflower Boutique Hotel include preserving an original turn-of-the-century water well situated in the building's first air well courtyard. This water well played an important part of Peranakan life at the time, being the only source of water for all the household needs for the Peranakan family that had stayed in the townhouse then.

Much of the antique marble, still beautiful though faded with an aged patina, has been meticulously reconditioned in many areas of the Hotel. The vividly coloured Peranakan wall mouldings and plaster renderings in the Hotel’s front facade has also been painstakingly restored. The timber ceiling beams were then sympathetically refurbished and the walls were painted thoroughly with ground sea shell calcium paint which allows the walls to breathe.

Modern fittings and finishes, such as Italian marble bathrooms with rain showers and luxurious amenities, have been thoughtfully included during the restoration process, whilst ensuring that the original character of the townhouse was carefully retained. With this seamless fusion of antique and contemporary, you can now experience a fragment of history, while enjoying a comfortable and meaningful stay in Melaka filled with warm memories.
