Known as the queer capital of Europe, Berlin is historically famous for being a pioneer of gay and lesbian rights since the 19th century, going against Section 175 of the German Penal Code that criminalized homosexual relations among men. Get a chance to discover the past and present LGBTQ+ community in Berlin with this guided half-day tour of the vibrant city. On the day of the tour, meet up with your tour guide and group outside Weihenstephaner Restaurant, easily accessible via the S-Bahn or the tram, then proceed with the tour. Vist Schöneberg, a hub for the city's gay scene that enjoys a reputation for some of Berlin's best nightlife, as well as home of the iconic Marlin Dietrich. Wander through its quiet and peaceful streets with your tour guide, who will tell you all about how the local LGBTQ+ community lived in the past, especially during the wars. From there, stop by the neighboring Eldorado, one of Berlin's oldest bars for the gay community, also frequented by openly gay Nazi SA leader Ernst Röhm. You'll also make a stop at a nearby memorial to homosexuals persecuted by the Nazis and discover how all the important information stored in the Institute for Sexual Science was lost during the infamous Nazi book-burning. Your last stop for the day is Kreuzberg, where you'll get a feel of what life is like today for the LGBTQ+ community in the city.
