💡History of Pancasila Day
The election of June 1 as the day of the Pancasila is inseparable from the history behind it. That is where the Dokuritsu Junbi Cosakai or the Indonesian Independence Preparation Efforts Investigation Board (BPUPKI) officially held its first session on May 29-June 1. In the BPUPKI session, a number of figures delivered their speeches regarding the formulation of the basic principles of the state. These figures are Mohammad Yamin, Soepomo, and Soekarno. Right on June 1, 1945, Soekarno introduced 5 precepts consisting of Indonesian Nationality, Internationalism or Humanity, Consensus or Democracy, Social Welfare, and God Almighty.
To perfect the idea, BPUPKI then formed a Committee of Nine to provide details on the formulation of Pancasila as the basis of the state. The nine people included Ir. Soekarno, Drs. Mohammad Hatta, Mr. A. A. Maramis, Mr. Muhammad Yamin, Achmad Soebardjo, Abikoesno Tjokrosoejoso, Abdul Kahar Muzakkar, H. Agus Salim, and K.H Abdul Wahid Hasyim. After several meetings, finally at the PPKI session on August 18, 1945 it was decided that Pancasila became the State Foundation. Then based on Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2016, June 1 was established as the birthday of Pancasila and became a national holiday.
