History of Maulid Nabi 🖋️
The Maulid Nabi 2024 is on September 16 and has been declared a national holiday. Based on the Hijri calendar, the Prophet's birthday is celebrated every 12 Rabiul Awal. Regarding the history of the Prophet's birthday, of course it cannot be separated from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. Because, the meaning of the word Maulid Nabi is the birthday of the Prophet. On the day of his birth, Abrahah's army came to Makkah with an elephant army to destroy the Kaaba. However, by Allah's permission, Ababil birds came in droves carrying a small stone called Sijjil and destroyed Abrahah's army. The Kaaba was protected by the greatness and power of Allah. The year of prophet Muhammad's birth is also referred to as the year of the Elephant because of this event. As a form of respect and expression of joy for the birth of the Prophet, the tradition of Maulid Nabi developed in various countries. Including in Indonesia.

🕌 Commemoration of Maulid Nabi in Indonesia
Usually, every mosque in Indonesia has an event to commemorate the Prophet's birthday. Such as conducting recitations, eating together, or conducting competitions for children. In some cities, special traditional ceremonies are organized to commemorate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Such as:
1. Grebeg Sekaten in Yogyakarta and Solo
Sekaten is a traditional ceremony in the Yogyakarta Palace and Solo Palace to commemorate the Prophet's birthday. In this ceremony, there is Gunungan containing crops brought by the palace servants. Later, this gunungan will be paraded around the palace and distributed to the community.
2. Walima in Gorontalo
The commemoration of the Prophet's birthday in Gorontalo has been going on since the 17th century until now. In the tradition, people will come to the mosque to make dhikr. Then parade Tolangga which contains roasted chicken, boiled eggs, and traditional cakes such as kolombengi, tutulu, and wapili. At the end of the event, the food can be eaten together.
3. Baayun Maulid in Kalimantan
Unlike the previous two traditions, Baayun Maulid is performed by swinging the baby. In this tradition, the swing used has been decorated with janur in the shape of birds, diamonds, and others. Then, parents who will follow this tradition will prepare a piduduk containing rice, habang sugar, threads, needles, small change, nyiur, and hintalu hayam.
