History of Islamic New Year
The Islamic New Year, or Hijri New Year, is an important moment for Muslims that marks the Prophet Muhammad's Hijra from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. This Hijrah became the starting point of the Islamic calendar that we know as the Hijriyah calendar. The Hijriyah New Year falls on the 1st of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
The moment of Muharram is a month full of privileges, for Muslims there are several glories of the Islamic New Year that can be done such as Ashura Fasting, sunnah practices, and remembering important events on this red date. Such as the rescue of Prophet Ibrahim (as) from King Namrud who tried to burn him, the splitting of the Red Sea to save Prophet Musa from King Fir'aun, and others.
