Air France Features
Air France is a French airline headquartered in Tremblay-en-France. The airline is a subsidiary of the Air France - KLM Group and a founding member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance. The airline's global center is at Charles de Gaulle Airport with Orly Airport as the central domestic hub. The headquarters of the Air France company, which was previously in Montparnasse, Paris, is currently located on the Charles de Gaulle Airport field in northern Paris.
Air France was formed on October 7, 1933, from the merger of Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne (CIDNA), and Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA). During the Cold War, from 1950 to 1990, Air France was one of the three leading allied airlines operating in Germany, precisely at Tempelhof and Tegel airports, West Berlin.
In 1990, the company acquired the operations of the French domestic airline, Air Inter, and international rival UTA (Union de Transports Aériens). It served as the primary national flag bearer of France for seven decades before the 2003 merger with KLM.
In 2018, Air France and its regional subsidiary, HOP!, Carried 51.4 million passengers. Air France operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing widebody aircraft on long-distance routes and uses Airbus A320 aircraft on short-haul routes. Air France introduced the A380 on November 20, 2009, with a service route from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to JFK Airport, New York. HOP!, which operates most of its regional and domestic scheduled services on a local jet fleet.
