Emirates is an airline based in Garhoud, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The airline is a subsidiary of the Emirates Group, owned by the Government Investment Corporation of Dubai. Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East that operates more than 3,600 flights per week from its hub at Dubai International Airport to more than 150 cities in 80 countries on six continents. Emirates is the fourth-largest airline in the world based on passenger-kilometer revenue that was flown and the second largest in terms of shipments of tonnes of flown kilometers. The airline also provides cargo services that are served by Emirates SkyCargo.

Emirates was founded in May 1985 by the Dubai Government, which began operations on October 25, 1985, with flights to Bombay, Delhi, and Karachi. Then, on July 11, 1987, Emirates flight destinations were added for flights to Europe. As for flights to the East, Emirates began inserting them in June 1990. The Emirates airline continued to experience rapid growth until 2000 by adding its aircraft fleet. Although it had suffered a downturn during the bombing tragedy at Colombo Airport and the September 11 tragedy in New York. But Emirates revived in 2004.

Emirates operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft. As of February 2019, Emirates is the largest Airbus A380 operator with 115 aircraft in service and eight further orders. Since its introduction, the Airbus A380 has become an integral part of the Emirates fleet, especially on high-traffic long-distance routes. Emirates is also the largest Boeing 777 operator in the world by operating 144 aircraft.

Emirates Loyalty Program

  • Emirates Skywards

Emirates Skywards is a frequent-flyer program from Emirates that was launched in 2000. This program has more than 16 million members in 2016 and uses two separate point systems - Skywards Miles as a currency that can be exchanged for various prizes. One of them is Classic Rewards, which allows people to use their Skywards Miles to book flights to any destination throughout the Emirates network in any class. Also, there are Tier Miles as a metric that determines member-level status. Tier Miles can be collected only when passengers fly with Emirates, while Skywards Miles can be obtained through flight, promotions, and partner offers. Skywards Miles are calculated using four primary inputs, namely route, fare type, class, and level. There are four levels in Emirate Skyward, namely Blue, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. This program has partners in various airlines, banks, hotels, car rentals, and retail/lifestyle verticals.
