Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is a Swiss national airline serving more than 100 destinations in 44 countries around the world. The majority of flights from Zurich and Geneva carry nearly 18 million passengers per year, with about 90 aircraft. Swiss Airlines has a cargo flight division that is operated by Swiss WorldCargo, a company that provides a variety of shipping services to around 175 destinations in more than 80 countries.
Swiss Airlines was formed after the bankruptcy of Swissair in 2002, which was once the Swiss national airline. Before going bankrupt, Swissair had a subsidiary called Crossair and later changed its name to Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss Airlines), which officially began operating on March 31, 2002. Swiss Airlines maintained Crossair's, LX's IATA code, and Swissair's ICAO code, namely SWR, to maintain international traffic rights.
