We considered ourselves the two luckiest travelers in Albania after we spent two nights in this fabulous establishment. Words defy how warm, inviting, and uniquely gorgeous this place is - dark wood timbers, the entire place oozing with Albanian decor and Ottoman antiques and then there was the staff...We called the three front desk cool Albanian guys - “the three amigos”. They were all exceedingly competent, super friendly, and personality in the stratosphere! Of course the hotel had a darling mascot- a white, fluffy dog named Coco (sp?) who roamed the bar and front entrance area always looking for a hug. Breakfast was unbelievably delicious and served in an upstairs all glassed in area with a gorgeous panoramic view of the cliffed hillside houses and Mt. Tomorri . Dinner with local wine, freshly prepared Albanian and international food - well, we are foodies - and our two dinners there were the best in Eastern Europe!! Alex (I may have the name slightly off) was our server both evenings and he was terrific - great recommendations and terrific service!! Oh and location? - well step out the front entrance onto the cobbled stone street and this is the main walkway up to the castle and its environs. In a few minutes’ walk - you are there. In short, Berat and Hotel Mangalemi - magical! We can’t wait to go back!!!!!
