This hotel is centrally located in El Calafate, which is a very bustling town in a beautiful part of Argentina. You can easily walk into town and find restaurants ,and many sophisticated shops. The hotel is quite small and the rooms are as well...they are very basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was in a bright sunlit room and there was a nice selection of items offered. The owner/staff were very kind and helpful, you could tell they took pride in their establishment.

We stayed at Madre Tierra on 17th and 18th March when everything was suddenly becoming difficult because of Coronavirus. Most hotels were closed, and whilst we were there El Calafate had its first confirmed case, so shops, restaurants, bars and attractions were suddenly shut. Our hiking holiday had to stop because all National Parks were closed so we had to find new flights to get home. Mariano and his wife made sure we had a comfortable stay - we loved the room, and especially the large first-floor lounge for guests - and they gave us lots of advice. The breakfasts were really good, and varied. Mariano gave us a free bottle of wine to drink on the last night! It's also in a great location in El Calafate, and Mariano is very knowledgeable about the area and excursions. Highly recommend staying here.

Me and my husband stayed in Madre Tierra as a last minute deal due to some changes that we needed to apply in our trip. Good Points: - Decoration - Cleaning - Location Points to improve: - Payment: guys, it was a nightmare!!! First of all: they just accept cash. Come on! 2020... I didn’t checked it on Booking.com (last minute, I was on a rush and didn’t realize it...) and got very surprised because I haven’t the enough money to pay it in cash. So, the receptionist said that we could pay using credit card but it would have a extra rate of 15% (yes, an absurd, but not the last one...) and I would need to cancel my reservation on Booking.com (I can’t understand why, except by 2 reasons: first of all, they don’t want to pay Booking commission (what I think is very wrong because I arrived to these guys using it) and they don’t what my review there (Ok, I‘ m making it here with a special touch). - The nanny point: they ask you ALL your plains, schedule and companies that you used to booking. It is annoying!!! I was on vacations and didn’t wanted to give so much details of every step I took... It is so much my nanny! Kkkkkk - Second nanny point: Twice a day the room keeper entered in our room to clean but also to organize my shoes, papers and other things. Once my husband was searching his fleece and we realized that the lady placed it inside the wardrobe (sooooo nanny!). It is something to improve because is a little bit invasive and also annoying! - The room was very small. Me and my husband couldn’t open properly the bags... but, at least it was cosy! - They also declare themselves as “Boutique Hotel” (and will charge you for it) but some maintenance was necessary in the bathtub. As you can see in the picture, the access to its motor was totally rusty! The other installations were ok. - At least: the cost!!! As I said, they will change you for EVERY LITTLE THING! All the other hotels in Argentina include the breakfast in the rate, but not these guys! They will change you in USD 25 per person!!! Yes, overrated! - Breakfast: it was good but didn’t match the price at all! Just few thing on the table and they didn’t replace things that were missing... An invite to eat less as I suppose that the people who payed USD 25 for it wanted to worth the cost (but it is not possible). - Consumer relationship: as I already said, I had I big problem with paying. So, as I was “gently invited” to cancel my reservation on Booking, I tried to reduce the days and the answer to my request was (guess what?!) NO! Normally I am more a inquisitive person but I was so pissed off that I accepted... I got so bad with this hotel... I got a little bit angry a couple of days but decided not ruin my vacation because of these guys... However, I hope that my review here help you to avoid this kind of hotel who really want to exploit the tourists! So, avoid it and enjoy El Calafate in other hotel! ;) Mariana - Brazil 🇧🇷

We chose Madre Tierra (Mother Earth) based on its Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. One Note: They reluctantly take credit cards. They ask that you pay cash in $USD or Argentinian pesos. Their preference for cash is not unusual for Patagonia, and you may find the same to be true at other locations as well. There are numerous ATMs around town, but they charge from 5-10% per transaction. Madre Tierra is opened and operated by two extremely nice and cordial men, Daniel and Mariano who were very responsive to my email inquiries and extremely accommodating the two nights we spent there. Daniel is also a ski instructor whose son is apparently quite an accomplish skier himself, as he was training in the U.S at the time we were in El Calafate. Daniel told us he and his wife once drove from Ushuaia to Alaska. Mariano also serves as a local guide (hiking, etc.). They have staff that helps at the desk, as well as with meals and cleaning. A very efficient and well-run operation. To be honest, we found our room to be a bit tight, but this is a B&B not a major hotel. Even though the room is a bit small, it and the bathroom are very thoughtfully organized and we did not find ourselves stepping over luggage or one another, as has often been the case with other boutique hotels. The double bed was large enough for my wife and my 6’4” fame to sleep comfortably. Rooms are creatively differentiated by color. Our room, the blue room, had no view, but a large window for fresh air. Your name is on a small blackboard hanging on the outside of your room door. A nice touch and a simple way of informally introducing guests to each other. Breakfast was very nice and provided the usual continental options. Eggs were available on request. Each table had its own fruit salad and warm croissants, the rest was self-serve. Again the breakfast area was compact, but arranged to minimize any sense of crowdedness. You are asked to schedule a time for the next morning’s breakfast (6:0 – 10:00). We needed to eat our second morning at 6:30 due to a 700 scheduled pick up. We were 2 of 5 people eating then and everything was ready to go when we sat down at 6:20. If you are looking for a B&B in El Calafate, it is hard to imagine that you will find any place better than Madre Tierra. We will gladly stay there again if we are ever again in El Calafate.

You could not find a better wee place in El Calafate! Just do it! I can't really add to the review by 'IN_Travelers47906' except to say, "Yes!". Our stay was booked for us by Serac Expeditions. Well done, Serac! Our room was small but perfectly fine. Good hot shower & comfy beds with fine linens. And wifi! We loved the ambiance. Greeted with a fruit drink like we were on safari in Africa, a lovely wee room upstairs for relaxing & reading, even a yoga room above that. I did like the wee blackboards at each room with names. The breakfast was, seriously, the BEST we had on our entire trip in Argentina. Cudos to the wee lady that prepared them! The two gentlemen who looked after us were amazing! They weren't shy about telling us which restaurants were good (they were right!) & making sure all our plans were sorted out, including our airport pick-up. They generously made phone calls for us & made sure we were well looked after! Absolutely a first class place. Loved it. If I ever return I wouldn't stay anywhere else!
