My wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law stayed one night in a family room after taking in Queen's Sydney concert.
I will start with the positives. The apartment's check in staff were excellent. They were very efficient, polite and friendly. The guy on the front counter also carried my mother-in-law's luggage up to our second floor room, which I thought was a nice touch that impressed me. On check our the lady on duty was equally as professional and friendly.
One big plus and huge advantage of the Strathfield Executive Apartments are they are located in very close proximity (5 minute walk) to Strathfield railway station, the bus interchange and taxi rank. These are located right beside many different types of cafes and restaurants. All of these are on the opposite side of the railway station. On the same side of the railway station as the apartments is the Whelans Strathfield Hotel (I've also reviewed it). It's a your stock standard hotel.
The bathroom in our room was excellent and was easily the best feature of the room. A window let in lots of natural light (Pity the rest of the room didn't have windows, more about that below). There was a large shower recess, with excellent water pressure, and the hot water came through the pipes pretty much straight away. There was also a decent sized hand basin and mirror where you could wash your face, clean your teeth and where the girls could do there make up.
Now the not so good points and disappointingly there is a more than there should be for a family room that cost $299 for one night.
First and foremost is the price. Despite the fantastic location, the quality of the room is simply not good value for that type of coin.
The room we stayed in was supposedly a family room. To my surprise, it was just a room that contained a double bed and two singles along one of the walls. You would think a family room would contain two rooms, one for the double bed and another for the two singles. Obviously I was wrong. From a privacy perspective, this is a big black cross.
The room was a very unusual design. It was like a stretched "U" shape and there was very little natural light, because of there being very few windows. There was a small one in the kitchen and another in the bathroom and that was about it. The roof was also slanted in places, giving the room a claustrophobic feel to it. The air condition unit was on the far wall and due to the poor design of the room, could not cool where the double bed was at the opposite end. The hallway outside the room was very stuff and hot, obviously on the back of no ventilation.
There was also a noise issue. You could hear the people in the adjoining room talking. They weren't be inconsiderate or even loud, It was more a case of the walls being paper thin or there being no insulation.
I would not consider coming back again as a family unit, but would maybe consider it if I was flying solo, if I simply needed a bed for the night
If I could, I would have given it 2 and 1/2 stars.
