Driving to MAUN; the Gateway to the Okavango can be draining. From the Martins Drift Border, 600km at least, from TLOKWENG Border, 880km, from Ramatlabama 950km at least: at some point you need to stop and rest... or sleep. and that point is Rakops River Lodge. It comes up as weariness reaches treacherous proportions, and MAUN is endearing, only 200km more. Suddenly the road has more curves and more cows than before, especially the black ones, elephants too an eminent reality; No better point than Rakops River Lodge, to stop and refresh, or spend the night.
Unfortunately this point is disconnected from the current reality. You will see it on Booking.com like I did; and book. But the contact information on Booking.com won’t reach Rakops River Lodge. The price on Booking.com is not in sync with Rakops River Lodge. As you book, Rakops River Lodge does not know you are coming. Pray you don’t find it fully occupied on arrival. Of course they will give some form of excuse (explanation) why you book online and they have no clue you are.
Watch out, the signboard North bound might send you into someone’s cattle post. The signboard from the MAUN end is more accurate.
