Sunrise resort is a lovely place to stay. The location is amazing, on the quiet more rural side of Koh Rong, but still everything you could ask for, great food and just steps away from beautiful Coconut Beach. Staff are friendly and accommodation is really economical. The pool is a great feature when you don’t feel like swimming in the salty sea. The owner Mr. Vuth is a generous, lovely man and his staff are too. Thanks again for the great stay.

The rooms are big but very expensive for the price. The beach and water are great but I would not stay here for that price again. There are so many places in Asia that are better with similar beaches. I reckon you would be happy paying 70usd a night but not double that. On our last night, there was a truly horrific smell coming from the hotel as well. It just wasn't what we wished despite the amazing beach and water.

Sunrise Resort is just at the end of the pier and is the only bungalow hotel on Coconut beach that has the principal features of a hotel but falls far short of 4 star level and is over priced for what it offers. It is the only hotel with a pool and the large bungalows (concrete) with terrace are very clean and in a good condition with large open bath rooms. The access to the bungalows is excellent via the concrete pavement up the small hill but sadly they have removed nearly all plants so it feels rather cold and not very tropical. The “restaurant” is actually the beach loungers in the sand in the front and is really just said up for breakfast so most guests eat a restaurants next door. The staff is very friendly, as always in Cambodia, and try to be helpful though they need far more training. When I checked in the safe did not work, apart from not being mounted, and considering one can only pay in cash in this hotel (others on the beach accept cards) you need a lot of cash so it was important for security. After 5 reminders they finally came and managed to open but could not close it again so very useful! Eventually they took it away as if this solved the problem… When I brought this to the attention of the manager 2 days later he response was “if you are not happy, leave and we refund you the balance!” despite having booked and prepaid for 6 nights. Safe issued was never solved. Moreover he had great complaints that I requested prior to check-in to extend my stay with one day. What a helpful and serviceminded “manager”! Despite his rude behaviour I decided against taking this further as I was on holiday but when I needed the electronic key reset for the additional day he refused to do until I had paid the additional day after having been at the hotel for 6 days! Well maybe I needed to access to my money in the room first. At this stage I had enough of his insults (other guest also had issues with him) and checked out immediately. I short; Cut prices and the manager

Once you get through the true insanity of Sihanoukville, Coconut beach is delightful. It is just a beach with few activities and disappointing snorkeling, but the sand is white, the water is turquoise, the palm trees sway in the gentle breeze... A perfect place to unwind. We spent NYE here and there were as many Cambodians as foreign tourists, all celebrating together with BBQ, bonfire and Chinese lanterns. The resort is under new management within the last year. All rooms have a/c and are large with plenty of hot water in the shower. Rooms are serviced daily and we found reception staff very helpful. Some negatives which brought my score down from 4 to 3. Ferry schedule changed on 1/1/2020 and there is currently only one ferry at day to/from this beach, supposed to depart the beach @ 12:00 but 13:00 in reality. This makes getting off the island and out of Sihanoukville in a single day tiresome. (We got to Phnom Penh at 22:30) Cash only! No credit cards. At $150/night (which is very poor value for money in Cambodia, even for the perfect beach) this requires quite a bit of cash to be carried. Plenty of drinking water available but only in 300ml single use plastic bottles, which end up littering the foreshore. The beach is swept daily, but the other parts of the island have a depressingly familiar tideline of plastic debris. I discussed more eco friendly options with the manager but he didn't seem interested.

We loved this place despite the rain typical in this region for the season. It's a beautiful spot on the island. Hotel manager is very friendly and always helpful. Several restaurants and bars nearby.
