We loved the location of the hotel as it was within walking distance to many fantastic restaurants, five minute walk to the metro (Jianye Road) and was very close to quite a few attractions we wanted to see like the ferry terminal to Gulangyu, Mountain to Sea Trail and Bailuzhou Park.
The pool was nice for an afternoon dip but it is quite exposed to the sun. The building provides some shade and the attendants will jump up to help move lounge chairs to shaded areas. The changerooms are a little small but very clean and have saunas inside. The men's changeroom left me feeling a little exposed as you can see straight through to the shower area - they have added some privacy glass to help but it does not fix the design.
The Marco Polo has a few tempting restaurants on site including Italian, fusion, Japanese, Southeast Asian and a Starbucks. We tried the fusion restaurant SIP Contempary and the Southeast Asian Queen Cheok Yeut which were both very good and had moderately priced items.
The common areas were pretty spacious with the lobby area extending into an atrium that most of the rooms were around. There was also a billiards table near the pool on the third floor and a nice new gym.
The rooms were a little bit of a letdown. The AC was not strong enough, one of the cleaners used smelled a little musty, people were smoking on the non smoking floor and used items were not replaced (face cloths, body wash, batteries for the scale). The wall plugs in our room need a little help because only one could hold our plug without it falling out. We did get free use of the mini bar though which had a few cans of pop and a couple tsingtao beer!
The good of the hotel really outweighed the bad and I would stay here again largely because of the location, restaurants and pool.
