From the outside the Wyndham looks like a high-end western hotel that you would find in most major cities around the world.
Unfortunately this image is skin-deep. Once you enter the lobby you get the feeling of stepping back in time or stepping into a fairly standard Chinese-style hotel anywhere out in the sticks.
The first impression is one of cold, unwelcoming, old-fashioned Chinese decor. Something I thought had disappeared from “international” hotels twenty years ago.
I think the owners/management could do with checking-out some of their local competition in Xiamen and making some pretty big changes if they actually want to be thought of as an international hotel in what is a fantastic forward-moving city.
On the other hand, if they are aiming for the national “Gulang-yu in a day” tourists then by all means carry on as you are.
