I have been using this hotel many times during the last 6 months. It is very similar to it's sibling Comfort Inn San Miguel, and actually very similar to other chain hotels of this brand.
First: What do you get? A room with a bed, a closet and a table that serves as a desk, A/C, a bathroom with a shower... and that's it! Now the bed is comfortable (a bit on the hard side, though), the room has enough space, and they have -finally- switched their TVs to flatscreens, so you now have a bit more space at the desk. The bathrooms are clean, and everything seems well mantained. Except for the A/C, that is. After being in several rooms, I can attest these clunky, under the window, units are all incredibly noisy, and don't do their job properly at all rooms. With the heat in La Unión, this is really inconvenient.
Other facilities include a small charming pool, with rest area, a (very) small gym, nice conference rooms, a tiny business area, and a restaurant. The restaurant has several dish options, on the expensive side, with various degrees of success. Some are very tasty, some are not so much. At breakfast, there is your typical business servings, at lunch there is a buffet or a la carte, and for dinner only a la carte. Bland food, nothing really special, but servings are generous.
Now, what really makes this place great, is the staff. They are friendly, and are willing to accommodate your requests. The front desk staff is fast, friendly and do an extra effort to help with any needs, and check-in is a breeze. The maintenance people also are quick to help when needed. The restaurant staff deserves an extra praise, they are extremely helpful and friendly, they really have a great team here with the likes of Daisy, Andino, Julio and the rest.
Overall, this is a good option: Decent prices, a modern, safe place, great staff, all the basic facilities. Rooms are a bit hit-or-miss -some have a great view, some other not at all. On the minus side, we have that clunky A/C, and there are some moments when the hotel hosts a party in the pool area, and the music is hear all over the place. There is no coffee maker at the rooms (they should), and is a bit isolated, meaning you can't really walk from the hotel to La Unión. A good choice!
