I have stayed in Hotel Jung on numerous occasions and it's difficult to fault it. It's clean, it's tidy, the breakfast is fine, the rooms are fine, it's in a great location, it always seems to have friendly staff, and it's not usually expensive. If you're going to Essen and want to be near the best nightlife or the exhibition hall, Hotel Jung is the ideal place to stay!

Let's be realistic: For 77 Euros a night you cannot ask for many things fancy.
Expect: A budget hotel with a great location: Five minutes walk to the Essen fair, subway in front of the hotel for easy mobility in town, and being in the heart of the restaurant & bar district with loads of nice cafés and eateries.
The hotel is from the 1950s and it shows (when were you last in an elevator made for 2 people max?). Rooms must have, however, been renovated quite recently. There are new carpets, new furniture etc. selected with taste. This did not enlarge the bathrooms that are somewhat tiny.
Ask for a quiet room and you will not face the busy square to the front.
Something the hotel may wnat to work on is the quality of the breakfast coffee.

Picked this hotel after reading reviews in tripadvisor and fancy photos in websites but it was way below expectation, especially the rooms werent maintained well. Breakfast was ok and staffs werent that bad.

stayed there for two nights for a business trip. i made the mother of all mistakes and made my choice by judging from website photos... staff is friendly, but couldn't help the fact that this hotel is a entirely run-down and worn-out place stuck in the early eighties. room was tiny, walls dirty with nails poking out (which obviously used to hold a painting, that wasn't there anymore, just left a nice "shadow" on the wall), wimpy hangers for clothes, a wire dangling out of the tv (i rather didn't touch it). breakfast was ok, but nothing more than that! i've stayed in way better hotels with less stars for less money in more elaborate places that essen/germany is (barcelona, nyc etc). i just can't understand how arosa (this hotel belongs to the chain) can afford to run this place under their label. won't help the reputation, if you ask me.
