We stayed here before and decided to return because of the location (10-15 minutes walk to city centre) and the private car park (free). There is no reception at the hotel, you just have to ring the front door bell and follow the instructions to get in and get your room entry card. We had the same room as last time, the comfort room on the second floor. The room includes a private bathroom, TV, small pantry with fridge, massage chair.and private balcony. There is no elevator in the building. Rooms are clean, although the window sill and sigarette butts on the balcony looked like they were not cleaned since ages. And still, there were some things missing, like the outlets for the lamp on the bedside table and water boiler in the pantry and the outside lighting fixture on the balcony. But we did not come here to relax in th cjair or make coffee, but had again a pleasant stay.

Checkin with minimum human interaction, just confirm the booking on internal phone and a code is provided, enter code on number pad and get the room access card. The person on the phone is polite, kind and helpful. There is no lobby, just march to your room. Hotel does not have an elevator, so you drag the luggage to your room. Room is bigger compared to similar priced hotels, has a small kitchenette with sink, microwave, pair of plates, glass, small bowl, spoons, forks, knives and bottle opener. Small (empty) fridge (minibar type) is available. The working place is bigger as well. A small sofa with cushions is provided. You will also find a small table fan. You can opt in for a breakfast (€ 9,80 / person) which is served about 1800 m away in a complete difficult location which can be stressful if you are in a hurry or don’t know the location. The room is quite (nearly all windows open in the backyard) even though the hotel is on a main road. Directly below the hotel, there is a Lidl (discounter/supermarket). BUT the bed and the pillows aren’t very comfortable and bathroom is a disaster with rusty shower and blocked, stinky drain. Therefore taking shower is a real challenge. First think that greets you in the room is damp and moldy smell. The room needs a deep cleaning of carpet and drain work.

The hotel is located just North of the city centre of Essen (10-15 minutes walk) and has a private parking area. The hotel doesn't have a reception; you have to ring the front door bell, go inside and get the instructions to obtain the key cards for your room. Rooms are comfortable; we had the comfort room on the second floor with balcony, which also included a private bathroom, TV, small pantry with fridge and massage chair. Rooms are clean, the value for money is excellent. The reason why I did not rate the hotel as excellent is that there were some things missing and I have some remarks about the room. There is a lamp on the bedside table, but an outlet is missing. There is a water boiler in the pantry, but ..... no wall plug. The small fridge was standing in the middle of the room, why is it not built in into the pantry? The bathroom is furnished with a built-in shower unit. But there's a gap between the shower and wall behind that can never be cleaned well. There's a cable outside for the balcony lighting, but lighting fixture is missing. Again, just remarks, that didn't really impact our pleasant stay at the hotel.

The first night there was a bad smell in the room and the carpet was damp. As there was no other room available we had to stay in the room. We did not sleep because of the smell and one of the beds smelt so bad that I had to sleep on the couch. The day after we got a better room but still had to pay the full price!

This place had a strange telephone for the reception but the studio was quite nice, though narrow with only a single bed. My stay was most memorable for the vault-like door and the shower, which had many complex nozzles and it took a lot of time with cold water spurting to figure out how the controls worked. I had to use the strange telephone to find the wifi code as well. I also think it could be clearer whether one is expected to park along the side or at the front of the residence, as it is not very clear (to a visitor) whether there are any parking restrictions on the street.
