BAD SERVICE, NOT FRIENDLY. We booked a night at this hotel with hotelspecials.nl but we were not even welcome. Why the name? We paid for the night but they could not even book it to another date. Bad service. Once they have your money they can not help you anymore. Never ever ever again, a waste of money!! 👎👎

When booking a room for an evnet in March that has been caneclled becaues of Coronavirus it looked to me normal to ask for refunding the amount paid in advance. Whatever could be the reservation because it was cancelled not by me but by the country itself. The answer of the hotel has been very strighet (even when asking directly or through Booking.com) "NO Refundable"; When asking for postponing the booking for next March 2021 the a,swer was alos "NO". I am alos pratising commerce and found such attitude really bad and recommand to avoid this hotel

Booked a hotel 'Welcome Hotel Essen' via Hotwire. Global pandemic happened in the meantime. Then I spent five months trying to explain that the event I was going to was cancelled because of this once-in-a-lifetime-event (I guess the word pandemic isn't really in everybody's vocabulary). I didn't event insist on a full refund and was okay with getting consumer credit when travelling gets back to normal. Both the hotel and Hotwire which I used for booking showed no desire to actually solve the problem. The hotel wrote back to me that 'I could still visit Essen as a tourist or that I could give it to my friends'. Once again, lack of basic understanding of the current situation. I am sure I will be back to Essen many more times in the future, but I will never step a foot back at this hotel, so please enjoy the money you took.

When we wanted the same room on the other side of the building, so we would hear less of the street noise, we had to pay EUR 10 per night per room. We did this, but before we were allowed to enter the room, we had to pay for everything (more than EUR 2,000. Upgrade total was only EUR 80). It was very annoying. Rooms were clean and staff in the bar / restaurant was very friendly. Bed was too soft for me. Fitness equipment was not in the hotel. You have to go 5 minutes away to a fitness centre. Not what I expected!

The hotel is close to the streets where you can shop and eat fine food. However I did not like the surroundings of the hotel. Nevertheless I think that this hotel is one of the best options in Essen. The breakfast is very rich, I am sure everybody can find anything to eat :)
