We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Museo Mayan Inn. We were in room A4, which was at the back of the hotel. This room had 2 double beds, 2 comfy chairs, 3 tables, and a wood burning fireplace. The bathroom had a tub and shower. Unlike some reviewers, we had no problems with hot water or water pressure. When we arrived, we were struggling with a GPS that wasn't spot on where the hotel was. Luckily, we met Jose, an English speaking guide (there always seemed to be different English speaking guides hanging out by the front door of the hotel), who showed us where we could park (in a locked hotel parking lot). I used him as a tour guide, and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Besides all the normal information about Mayan culture, he took me to a place where they rent costumes for a festival, and even donned one of the costumes for me to see. He also took me out of town to see a Mayan steam bath, which is very like a sauna. He knew where an ATM was that took foreign (tourist) ATM cards. He was good, but expensive. Back at the hotel, the staff were all friendly, and our manservant lit excellent fires. There is no WiFi in the room. You have to go out to the courtyard. And the bar across the street opens at 4 PM. We left while the market was still going on, and trying to find our way out of town was a challenge. Luckily, we ran into Jose again, as we struggled, and he gave us good directions to get out of town. We would stay here again.

The fireplace really makes this place a great dining option. The art is typical and impressive though the painter depicts women very masculine lol! That is typical here even in the Cuchumatanes. I cannot speak to the hotel as I stayed somewhere else but I sat by the fire and enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate on a freezing typical Chichi night so I loved it. Nice managers as well. But waiters a little lazy.

Chichicastenango is famed throughout Central America for its Mayan market, the largest in the country. The majority of tourists who visit it come on a day trip from Antigua or Lake Atitlan. However, if you really want to get the best of the market and be there when it opens then you need to stay in town and the Mayan Inn is the perfect place to do it. It really is decked out like a museum with Mayan and colonial pieces everywhere as well as very interesting Mayan scenes on the walls. The rooms all have fireplaces and locally made furniture. They are quite simple, but very adequate. What we really liked were the abundance of flowers in both the main lodge and the annex. The food is simple, but very good. The bar is cozy. But it is the location that can't be beat. The market starts almost right outside the doors and you can watch the tiny Mayan women hauling unbelievably large bundles on their backs up the hill to the market. There is a great view of the very colourful cemetery from the back of the property and it's an easy walk to get there and back. We also liked the fact that the waiters are dressed in traditional Mayan clothes that add to the local colour. All round we had a great two night stay here.

The hotel is very simple, but the furniture are very special, because they have a lot of antiques pieces. They are very kind, but they need a renovation immediately because it is very old... All the staff are very nice, but the food is awful.

I traveled in time while staying at the Mayan Inn. The architecture, the furniture and the ways are awsome if you enjoy a place with character and roots in history and traditions, We stayed on the second floor of the "anexo", and when we go back we will choose the same area. Our room had a beautiful view of the town´s church and of the hotel´s garden. The room had lots of space and a fireplace wich you certainly need in Chichicastenango, specially on the cold season. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and diligent. Choices of food are limited, but good. The bar, for the 6:00 pm cocktails is utterly charming, cozy and welcoming. Lots of fascinating art in the hotel, from celebrated Guatemalan and foreign artists. If yo appreciate antiques and furniture, you will love this place. Its gardens are colorful and full of aromas. Located a couple of blocks from the market, but not noisy.
