We spent three nights at the Holt, and spent the days Hiking and visiting sights and towns in the Westfjords. This was the perfect place to stay and do all of that.
This is not a luxury hotel but it is a PERFECT hotel for its place and purpose. It is family run and you feel very much like a guest. The breakfast spread is ample and feels like they have simply made more of theirs to share with you. There was an event going on one of the nights we were there, and they shared their special meal with us, and the guests of honour came by where we were and chatted. It was incredibly welcoming! There is an honesty bar where you can grab beer or wine and take it to sit in the windowed lounge or television lounge/ formal dining room and relax. We loved the former!
Right outside the door is a wonderful hike along the fjord. (See photos.) We followed the water, watched the tide go out, walked on what use to be water past an eider duck protection area. In the summer, the area we hiked is a beautiful white sand beach. There is so much to say.
The place is a converted school house and the rooms are comfortable, very well appointed and every space is efficiently used. Anyone planning to spend time in that part of Iceland, and there is a LOT of beauty to see here, should stay at the Holt!
