Hotel Matoa

Stayed there 1 night from March 21 to 22 in a single VIP room for Rp 275000. Room had AC, a TV (which I didn't use), a big and comfortable bed and decent furniture. Bathroom has western - flush! - toilette and shower. Unfortunately warm water didn't come, but in the hot Ternate climate I was happy to take a cold shower. My backpack and most clothes inside had become wet on the way to the hotel, so I asked for a hanger to dry them. This was a little problem as the elderly guy who was at the reception when I arrived, who speaks English well, had vanished, and the other staff don't speak English at all. But in the end they understood and gave me the hanger. Breakfast was a full Indonesian course with nasi kuning, boiled egg, 3 different kinds of noodles, shrimp crackers and a piece of fish in a good curry. I'm normally not a big fan of this sort of food for breakfast, but it was all very well prepared and tasted reslly good, so I liked it. In the end they also gave me a free lift to the airport. If I come to Ternate again, I will very likely stay here again.

This is a family run hotel with excellent service and good accommodation. Some minor flaws in the equipment, but this was more than compensated by the friendly attitude and the provided breakfast and late afternoon snack, included in the price.
