I try to point out a special feature or advantage of each place reviewed. YUT’s PARADISE? - not only a good all-rounder but also a great CENTRAL POSITION (matched only by adjacent upmarket KOKOMO) near the pier which makes exploring the main villages and the two halves of the island (do them separately) pretty easy. - NEAR PIER: turn right, walk 100m. Removes transfer costs – some of the more distant resorts charged IDR100K+ per boat - a bit rich if you are the only passengers, Trips can be bumpy, wet. - EXPLORING THE 2 MAIN VILLAGES: Linear ORONG BUKAI starts just south of the pier – great for village life. Couple of small stores and restaurants with non-tourisy meals. Locals v friendly. No dogs, surprisingly few cats, lotsa free range goats and chickens, no cars, a few motos. Bigger PEGAMETAN is on the opposite W coast only 500m across the paved track starting just south of the pier. - EXPLORING THE NTH HALF OF ISLAND: take the path north of YUT’s. After 300m look for the VIEWPOINT sign – 20mins each way, no killer slopes, best views north and west. Back on the track +100m sees a tidal entrance to the NE lake: take the hand-line punt across (easy). Best to continue on the beach past here, work has made tracks discontinuous. 3600M gets you all the way around the north coast and down the west coast as far as PEGAMETAN. A west coast swamp/lagoon entrance with mangroves/scrub a bit hard to pass full tide. Best sand is on the NE corner where new VILLA SELALU’s beach club grooms the beach. The rest is pretty ordinary; thin (almost disappears full tide), coral debris, lotsa rubbish at the storm tide mark. Snorkeling opportunities underwhelming. But if you are looking for a patch of deserted sand – well I saw no-one along the northern half. - EXPLORING STH HALF: a mostly paved track goes right around except for the western most peninsula and the stretch between the pier village and the neat spit adjacent THAMARIND RESORT and neighbours (for the latter, walk the 200m on the rocks south of the village (will get wet feet full tide + beware slippery sections) – to continue STH TAKE paved path INLAND side of lake behind spit. To avoid the rocks, the southern tracks can be picked up in PEGAMETAN. Fewer beaches in STH half (but the bit along the spit equal to NE corner and has ok snorkeling), more villages. Southern most new MARINA interesting. BACK TO YUT’s PARADISE: About a dozen bungalows set around spacious garden – only 2 of my bottom budget fan, cold water (both fine) jobs ; both in SW corner where WIFI was poor. My bung easily big enough for 2+gear (more exxy bungs progressively bigger – family type huge), comfy bed, good net, spacious bathroom. Demerits – no drying rack, bath mat, inside trash bin, + slight lateral slope (not noticeable in bed). Thought value FAIR for this area (higher than NW GILIS or mainland BALI/LOMBOK). - restaurant airy open sided, good WIFI and view of ocean and passing parade - prices very reasonable; head lady SAYUTE great cook, salad roll (with fried egg) yummiest and best value meal all trip. Service varied – when SALUTE absent lack of English skills meant some confusion. Lengthy wait for meals but this meant food prepared from scratch, not long simmering pots. - beach in front groomed but thin, water milky. Sitting platforms overlooked beach and path+sunrise just south of RINJANI. VERDICT – a good place – I enjoyed my stay.

Beautiful bungalows right on the beach. Family room - plenty spacious, clean and tidy. Sayuti was a wonderful host. She contacted me several times while we were travelling to see how we were getting on and also arranged our boat trip from Lombok, and a snorkelling trip the next day. There isn't much on Gili Gede, it is still very much an untouched island, but thats why we went. Exploring the walkways through the villages was a highlight. We had a drink at resort next door and got to use pool and wifi. Couple of days here was about right for us.

Our stay at Yut Flower Inn was fantastic. Sayuti was the most kind, welcoming and generous host we encountered during our travels in Indonesia. My family (myself, husband and two teens) stayed in the lovely clean family room with one king and two single beds. The beds were very comfortable. The nights were very warm and a small fan and a ceiling fan were provided to help cool the room. Breakfast was included in with our room and was absolutely delicious - especially the mixed juice and pancakes. Sayuti and Andi spoilt us with their amazing cooking and treated us to a fish banquet cooked and served on the beach with the fresh fish caught earlier in the day by my son and husband on a fishing trip arranged by Sayuti. Sayuti took my daughter and I on a very memorable 2 hour walk around half the island and we had the pleasure of meeting the beautiful local people and their inquisitive children. We also did a snorkelling trip arranged by Sayuti with Daeng which was fantastic. Daeng took some awesome underwater photos and made a video of our trip which he sent to us afterwards - awesome memories !! I highly recommend Yut Inn if you are looking for a budget homely homestay experience without bells and whistles on an unspoilt island. There is no access to Wi-Fi at Yut Inn but that was actually a blessing with teens !! Thank you so much Sayuti and Andy, we hope to visit again soon.

We spent 6 days at Flower Paradise last month and thoroughly recommend it. Sayuti is a great host, always helpful and smiling. The food was good (especially the little desserts that came at the end of our meal). We found the lighting in our room to be too dim but Sayuti quickly produced a lamp. Next door to Flower Paradise is the very expensive Ko-Ko-Mo resort. We were able to use their wifi and also their pool.

The staff are amazing, they went out of their way to make our experience that little better. And not forgetting the house keeper, she workes tirelessly to keep the place clean. Anyone whose looking to stay here needs to know one thing and that this is not a 5 star hotel but you can be assured the staff are better trained than most 5 stars we stayed in. The room was extremely clean with extra towels for the beach. The beds all have nets to keep mosquitos out, not that we saw any in late October. The menu is fantastic, best Nasi Goreng on the island by far. The beach is 2 meters away and the sea 4, you can literally walk for 30 seconds from your bed to sea for a quick dip. The lobby is very spacious and serves as a perfect spot for watching the sunrise and the silhouette of the magical Mt Rinjani. We could go on about this magical place and the people who run it. So we would like to thank all of them and hope to stay in this amazing place again soon.
