Positives: quiet street whilst not too far from night market, aircon was pretty good.
Negatives: bed was quite hard and not so comfortable, none of the staff could speak English (I think the person I’d been communicating online with wasn’t there?), and the free lifts to the harbour/airport mentioned by other travelers (and the reason I booked the place) were not on offer. Geckos were alllll over the kitchen which felt unhygienic.
Nb: after leaving a review on booking.com the owner contacted me about it being an unfair review. He pointed out they let me check in early. This is correct, however I didn’t want to check in early - I just wanted to leave my bags and go out. However due to the fact that the staff didn’t speak English, this couldn’t be communicated. He also pointed out that there was a free breakfast I didn’t mention. Again, this wasn’t something I was told - presumably due to language barriers. I also failed to mention in my review that my toilet didn’t flush - something that wasn’t too big of a deal as I was provided a bucket to ‘diy flush’ the toilet. But given the owner complained my previous review wasn’t accurate, I Feel duty bound to disclose this information.
I wouldn’t stay here again. I stayed in a cheaper place with nicer rooms at RedDoorz a few blocks away on my first night previously in Banda Aceh. I wanted to give this place a shot because I wanted to support the locals, rather than a hotel chain. But the reaction of the owner to my review has confirmed this was a bad idea.
