Spectacular, Stunning and amazing are just some of the words I would use to describe this venue. My wife and I had our wedding here in June 2019 and it was the best decision we ever made. We are both from Ireland and so travelled to Italy one year before the date to look at venues. All in all we looked at 24 venues across all of Italy and La Badia was our final stop. We wanted a venue close to a town that could cater for over 100 travelling guests. As the venue itself is located less than five minute drive from the town, this meant that all out guests could experience an Italian wedding and an Umbrian town. The town itself has so much history, nice shops, narrow streets, churches, and fantastic restaurants.
As soon as we checked in for the first time and walked out to the courtyard, we knew we had found our venue. The venue overlooks the cliffs of Orvieto and the views across the valley are breath taking. This venue ticks all the boxes. Exclusive use, Rooms on site, Close to beautiful town, Church on the grounds and amazing food.
We didn’t have a wedding planner but Andreina, Tommaso, Rossella & team are all so helpful and accommodating. They helped us all along the way. We did travel to the venue once more to do a tasting and speak to a Florist.
The day of the wedding was perfect. After breakfast I was able to go for a swim to unwind while the bridal party got ready. We had a catholic ceremony in the church at 4 pm followed by an aperitif in the garden overlooking Orvieto. From there we moved to the Archway and had dinner while the sun set, followed by Dessert in the court yard. By this stage, our band Guty and Simone had already set up here and so we were able to dance into the night. The food on the day was incredible.
We can’t wait to celebrate future anniversaries at this venue.

Celebrating my wife’s birthday and a major wedding anniversary. We had started our travels in Italy after college and our first stop was Orvieto almost 50 years ago. We returned and selected this property and were not disappointed. Usually We do not eat in the hotel but the restaurant was not only exceptional but the setting perfect. Our suite had wonderful views of Orvieto.

We booked a single night here as an excursion from our week in Rome. The Hotel was beautiful, the staff was scarce, but there were only 8-10 guests there that night. We rented electric bikes by the train station and rode up to the hotel. We booked a suite and were very happy with the accommodations and the view. The primary attraction is the town, and we did not want to ride the bikes at night, so the hotel put us in touch with Paolo, who drove us into town and was waiting for our call when we finished dinner. We really enjoyed the stay and would stay again

The main issue is the woeful understaffing that renders the place unworkable despite the staff trying their best. The neglected pool and poolside with cracked and uneven decking and surrounds. Bits and pieces, such as old plastic bottles, tools, etc. just left strewn around near the pool as well as unkempt or empty planters, etc., all of which with a little care and attention could be sorted out.
We initially were given a room that had such a small shower (possibly the smallest I have ever been in) that we were given the honeymoon suite that was NOT in the main building. Despite it being 'their premium' room, it was frigidly cold and we spent an awful night shivering in a bed that smelled of damp! The next day we were moved to a room in the main building that was just as good and DRY.
The so called 'fine dining' restaurant is very mediocre. We travel globally several times a year and eat at Michelin star restaurants as well as other fine dining restaurants and this one didn't come close. My partner had one of the worst pasta and truffle dishes he had eaten in 50 years of visiting Italy. I opted for Veal Cheek in a rosemary jus, that was an unnecessarily huge portion that was possibly beef, that had a small amount of congealed tasteless jus. I had already returned the Primi course of pasta as it was so over-salted that it made one's tongue curl!
The breakfasts are also very average with a poor selection of mainly sweet cakes, lesser quality prosciutto and salamis and cheese and no decent bread at all. The croissants are taken from the freezer, baked dark to attempt to crisp but fail miserably and are totally flaccid and inedible. Shame on them!

Stayed here our first night in Italy and we are very glad we did. The service and setting was beautiful. It set the tone for the next seven days of visiting towns in Tuscany and Umbria. The room was large and comfortable, right off the courtyard. We were able to drive to the parking garage for the Orvieto escalator in less than ten minutes. The breakfast was amazing in a setting that you will not forget. Would definitely recommend this property.
