This place was incredible. I stayed for one night on an Explore bike trip of Japan. We had spent much of the afternoon riding in a steady rain, the group was a mess. From the moment we arrived they treated us like royalty, in spite of how filthy we were and considering the general japanese aversion to dirty!
The rooms were lovely and large, very traditional but clearly of good quality. A woman came into the room with me, clearly wanted me to sit at the little table as she made tea. I wished I could understand even a smidgen Japanese.
The interior of the hotel itself had some very nice pieces of art, everything very tastefully done. We had dinner there in the evening, it was amazing, both the presentation and the service. All of the traditional ryokans I stayed at served the traditional multi course Kaiseki Ryori meal, this one was the most refined and included some really unique components , including a little fish that was fished locally and grilled whole over coals. I'm not a very adventurous eater so eating them was a stretch for me and I was so glad I did, they were delicious.
