Shikoku and Takamatsu are great. The food, nature, Takamatsu-park en the boot trips to Naoshima: it’s wonderful. Hotel Areaone in Takamatsu is however not the best place to stay. With my family I chose this hotel because of its location close to the port, the location is indeed good. The rest was simply disappointing.
1. Breakfast: we booked breakfast in advance, but received some coupons instead to consume breakfast at a bakery in the Takamatsu railway station, 5 min away by foot.
2. Noisy room: please stay away from room 507, a constant loud, unbearable noice can be heard. The rooms itself are ok, perhaps a bit overpriced.
3. No English speaking staff.
4. Last but not least, a horrible parking service. We paid the hotel 1.000 yen per day (2 days) a 24hr parking space nearby, but had to pay another 1.700 yen when we picked up the car at 11:00 in the morning. I still have no idea where this amount came from. A rude a unfriendly owner kept our car hostage, demanding in loud tone his money. Do not know what kind of conflict the hotel has with the parking company, but this was very awkward and impolite. The conflict was solved, but All in all, a very disappointing hotel experience.
