Very good service, spacious rooms and a nice bath with Kusatsu's special hot springs water. But above all excellent food; breakfast as well as exceptionally creative dinner - well above the already high standards of the Japanese ryokan style hotel.

One of the things we really liked about this ryokan is its accessibility to Kusatsu Bus Terminal (5min walk), the town's central, Yubatake (5min walk), and Sainokawara Park. It was also very family-friendly. We brought our 1-year old baby along and there were no problems. The ryokan's staff were very accommodating and they brought colouring books for her entertainment during dinner. Not all ryokans accept infants so this experience was very pleasant for us. Meals were held at the restaurant instead of in the room. I would have liked the setup in the room for a more authentic experience. However, dining at their restaurant was also very pleasant as it had good views of its Japanese garden which was particularly breathtaking during winter when it was partially covered in marshmallowy snow. Food wise, portion and taste met expectations. There were private onsens for booking but these were really pricey. We went for its public onsens which were separated into male and female. Both male and female onsens have indoor and outdoor pools which also had views of their Japanese gardens. There were no crowds- most of the time I had the whole place to myself. The onsens were also very clean and were well-equipped with amenities and good quality toiletries from Shiseido. The ryokan's staff cannot speak English. However, this was not a problem for us as they had signs with some basic translation in English. They also had a few Taiwanese staff, which made things even easier for us as we could converse in Mandarin. Guests could choose their yukata at the lobby and there were a variety of pretty designs to choose from. It was better than some other ryokans I've stayed which provided plain designs at a lower quality. However, it also lacked the personal touch in the sense that the staff do not teach you how to wear them- there is an instruction manual provided in the room. I would recommend this ryokan to families with young children.

We stayed in Kane Midori for 2 amazing nights in April 2019. We reserved a package that includes breakfast, dinner and 2 private bath sessions. This was one of the best experiences we had in Japan and we dont regret it for a second. The staff didnt really understand English but they did try their very best to explain to us everything. Communication was not a problem. We booked the most basic rooms and the room was large and very well appointed. We slept on futons that were laid out every evening and it was extremely comfortable and cosy. We had amazing kaiseki dinner for the two nights we were there and the chefs really outdone themselves by serving us completely different menus from both nights. We were even served A5 wagyu on the second night. Every single dish served was beautifully plated and super delicious. We also ordered draft beer and that was amazing as well. Perhaps the highlight of the ryokan is their very well maintained public and private baths. The public baths were large and extremely clean and their private bath equally as clean and such an amazing experience. Overall, we recommend this ryokan if it is your first time staying in ryokans and would like to ease in luxuriously into this experience. Everything was perfect and we would love to return.

Location - Kanemidori is just a few minutes walk from Yubatake, the source of the Kusatsu hot spring. Very convenient to explore the area. Check in & out - Quick and smooth. Staff were polite and efficient. Food - Quality food with variety and nice presentation. Room - Traditional decor, clean and neat. I think the lighting in the bathroom is a bit dark. Hope the ryokan will look into this issue. Last but not least, I suggest some chairs should be offered to people with disability to put on or remove shoes at the entrance of the ryokan. The existing rattan chair was not too safe.

So this is my first time in hotel like this style. Great, amazing, good, small, big, hot spring. So I successfully happy and love to visit more. We have privet hot spring, good room and bed on the floor. Super nice food on the evening and morning is exactly breakfast. Start the morning with hot spring and the relaxing in the restaurant with you preorder breakfast. Only enjoy your stay.
