Overall room was good, but a lot of unusable space. the balcony was nice with table and chairs but the view not so nice. same for the private onsen .. the window opens up to a 'wall' view. nothing particularly special especially for the price for the room. buffet breakfast was nothing spectacular again for the price we paid.

This was booked for us and is a haven of traditional hospitality in Aso. Right from the moment we pulled up in our car (parking just across the street) we were treated like royalty. Room was traditional with yukatas and a private hot bath was available before our private dining on exquisite food. Morning breakfast was similarly good, including a novel way to cook your eggs and bacon, which you have to experience. Recommended.

We enjoyed our night at this elegant ryokan after sightseeing in the Mt Aso area. The public and private baths were a delight. We were given recommendations for a nearby restaurant for dinner and it was a good experience. Parking was provided for our rental car. The breakfast in the ryokan was very enjoyable. Wonderful service.

Gorgeous rooms overlooking greenery. Historic decor but modern comfort and cleanliness levels. Don’t let the fact that it is in the town turn you away; it is in its own complex with lovely gardens and bird song all day long. Food is terrific: good, local ingredients and haute cuisine presentation. The famous akaushi beef is first rate and you cook it yourself Yaki-niku style on a piece of volcanic rock. Plenty of professional staff, a rooftop bar/lounge, amazing onsen water...you get the picture. Highly recommended; terrific value! You’ll pay much much more at other places and won’t have this level of experience.
