I just finished my stay at Kifaru House and it is one of the best deals i have found in Nairobi. There is 6 acres of beautiful land with a stream to walk on; the chef is a professional who makes great Indian food and smoothies, and the staff is outstanding in their warmth and hospitality. Kifaru House is located in the Karen neighborhood that is perhaps the prettiest part of the whole city and is close to the Giraffe Center and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. And the highlight is that if you stay there you are supporting the African Network for Animal Welfare, one of the leading NGO's in Kenya. Give it a try

We wanted to be near the Giraffe Sanctuary and also the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Kifaru Guest House fills this perfectly Our taxi ride from the airport did not go well. Despite having a GPS our driver had a difficult time finding the location, making many wrong turns and driving extremely slowly. We had arranged for a dinner on arrival but we were very late and tired. We felt badly that we ate so little of the chicken that had been prepared. The guest house is run by an animal welfare organization (the property was deeded to them on the death of the owner).Moses is the main caretaker and explains a great deal about their conservation work. There is also a young man who cooks and several other employees are in and out to care for the needs. There are approximately 8 acres that have been left in the natural state and then a small landscaped area around the house We had three rooms, each with a king bed with mosquito netting and a bath en suite. Total price for all three was $83 per night. My room had more closet space than my entire house at home. The bath had a shower. I do not know if the other rooms had tubs. Each room could be locked and also the entrance door to the hall could also be locked, The only negative is that to access the rooms you need to walk outside. The rooms are in the same building as the sitting, dining and kitchen but there is no connecting hall. We were told that there are additional rooms on a second floor. The house often hosts college groups and tours A large breakfast was ready when we awoke. Again, more than we could eat. Then we took a walk of about 2 miles to the Giraffe preserve. After an hour there we took an Uber (in Kenya it is a Taxify) to lunch at a mall. From the mall we hired a driver to take us back to Kifaru and then wait for an hour before we went to the elephant orphanage for the babies 5 o'clock return from the forest. He also waited to take us back to our hotel. Total cost for about 4 hours of his time was $30 Moses had again prepared dinner (the evening meals were paid for separately by my son-in-law, so I do not know the price). We asked for a lighter breakfast of fruit and pastries the next morning and were very satisfied. As a conservation non-profit they have a small selection of souvenirs to support their animal rescue efforts. I purchased several items for gifts. With the price of the rooms so inexpensive it seemed the right thing to do If you would lie to stay n comfortable surroundings and meet the local people, I would highly recommend Kifaru House

My classmates & I stayed here for a few days while in Kenya for an International Social Work class. What a treat! The staff was so kind, the food they prepared for us was delicious, the views from the deck were amazing, and the house dog, Kaka, was so therapeutic at the end of a long day. Beds were comfy, several of us in bunks in a room together chatted until we fell asleep, and coffee (Dorman's...still slowly using the can of coffee I brought home) was always ready to go when we woke up. My trip to Kenya was life-changing in so many ways, but my time at peaceful Kifaru, with Morris and his deep voice greeting us at each daybreak and meal, is an especially beautiful memory. I cannot wait to take my family to experience Kifaru House and everyone in it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Kifaru Guest House. The setting, on a hill above an untouched forest, is lovely, the accommodations are very comfortable, and the food was excellent. Everyone was very kind to me. This was my first trip to Kenya and I'm glad that I stayed at Kifaru in Karen, than in Nairobi, which I would have found overwhelming.

This is my third visit to Kifaru and I will come back time and time again... We were here at the beginning of our trip and as we had one night before we go off somewhere else in Nairobi we opted to come back as the house is so comfy and like home! The staff are great and the food is delicious. I have stayed here by myself and felt very welcome and this time with friends. Lovely and relaxing placed to stay in a big dirty crazy city!
