just checked out from casabrina earlier today. start with the good stuff:- very good and comfortable bed (read from an article that is a RM 50k worthy bed), huge bath tub (I stayed in the heliconia suite), friendly and accommodating hotel staff, very secluded location. the bad stuff? very rundown infrastructure (apparently the entire resort only has ONE fan remote controller and you have to keep going back (no land line in the room) to the reception desk asking the staff go over your room to switch on the fan or adjust the speed each time you need; spoiled TV speaker; broken sauna lock etc), insufficient toiletries (only 1 half-used toilet roll was provided and no sight of any tissue paper as well); poor/no wi-fi and phone connection in the room (you have to get out to the main lobby for a passable connection), swimming pool with algae, no house keeping provided (we have to also request separately for towels on day 1 and 2 because none was provided for), dusty mat, no mini bar or snack provided in the room at all (given how secluded this place is, the nearest town is 30mins drive away). Our package comes with complimentary breakfast and dinner but to be honest i find the quality very inferior (think bad coffee, jam, bread, re-fried wedges, burned roasted chicken, cheap sausage/ham, mouldy grapes). I have a strong suspicion (unproven) that this resort has changed management because it is nothing like what i read on article dated 5-6 years ago. i feel the resort staffs did whatever they can with low budget/overhead provided for but is not good enough for me given how this place costs compared to other alternatives in its vicinity. a total shame how such a good potential resort getting run into the ground. 1 point for the bed and 1 point for the staff - and that is me being extremely generous here. will not return.
p/s: staying in heliconia suite for more than 2 nights and you will start developing cabin fever because there is no window at all in the room (no sunlight and no flowing air). suggest to stay in another suite if possible. better still, stay in another hotel.
