Looking for Reasonable prices as our stay in Penang was over 6 weeks seeing family and friends. The price of H Suite Beach fitted our plans. Whilst Living here (2007-8) in Penang i saw that the Hotel Rainbow Paradise was selling of some of their rooms.
On our arrival at the Hotel, i began to realise that this stay was not going to be what i thought it to be.
The Taxi stopped, four very bored Bell Boys sprung into action, clarifying that we were in the right place. It was stated that it was "Homestay" and promptly left us to sort it.
I had contacted a Mr Loh who told us to go to 8th floor and wait, which we did.
We were shown to our room given 1 plastic key and that was it.
At first glance the room was a decent size half carpet half tiled, 2 double size beds, wardrobes, kitchenette, bathroom a good size balcony with a great vista but as a friend once told me "you don't live in a view."
Once in we started noticing things but after a 36hour journey we were not in any mood of confrontation.
We always take hygeneic wipes with us to clean the area were we sit on the plane table, armrests etc.
So our 1st job was to start cleaning all the rooms. Yuk.
The mattress on one bed was worn and tired especially on the egde. During our 12night stay we had to empty our bins buy bin liners, clean daily but no cleaning utensils were available or provided. Fortunately Tesco's is nearby.
It was stated that we could use the Hotel swimming but that was not the case. In fact "Homestay" have no right to any of the Hotel facilities.
The bathroom was clearly in need of a full refit, the shower wasn't able to be adjusted so it sprayed out onto the floor. But rather concerning whilst standing in the bath the bath itself was flexing under my feet with every move I made whilst trying to shower.
There is lots of "black mold" in this room.
The electric hair dryer was wired directly into the plug.
A notice on the sliding doors leading to the balcony says to lock the doors, i would if there had been a lock.
Closer inspection of the carpet showed its age, ants seemed to like living in this room.
During our time there we wasn't contacted by anyone, which was in some respects not a bad thing.
As said earlier we lived in Penang a number of years and know how things work!!!!
To sum up the room is in dire need of a "full blown" renovation but in my humble opinion, it won't happen. We took our laundry to a laundrette, i suggested to my wife about taking the bed sheets!! We doubted this was a good idea as we felt that they wouldn't stand up to a good wash.
Returning back, i got the ironing board out to iron our clothes. No chance, the pictures of the ironing board explains it better.
The curtains are water stained.
Would i use this place again or would i recommend it. NO.
On checkout, phoned told just leave the key on table.
I think that sums it up.
