I've been staying here for the last 4 nights with our group of 14 young people on their Outlook Expedition in Sabah, Borneo.
The thing that sets this place apart from the other hostels in KK is the staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We've had a really warm welcome each time we've returned to the hostel from our days out. The staff seem genuinely interested in what everyone has been up to.
Jenny kindly agreed to look after our expedition rucksacks whilst we headed in to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu, which meant we could travel light carrying only our day sacs.
The hostel is immaculate. Our bedrooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. Not all the bedrooms have an en-suite, but the communal toilets and showers on each floor are kept clean and tidy. The showers are also heated, which has been quite a rare find on our trip!!
Breakfast will definitely keep you going until lunchtime. We were served watermelon, toast, boiled eggs and muffins, along with coffee and tea brought to your table. We did not receive this level of service in any other hostel in KK...and we stayed in 5 different ones during our month long stay in Borneo.
The location is great. There is a coin operated launderette, a pharmacy and a convenience shop on the same street. There's ample choice of restaurants /cafes to eat at and its a short walk to all the cities attractions.
I can highly recommend Lavendar Lodge to solo travellers, couples, families and large groups like ours!
A HUGE thanks to Jenny, Daniel and all the staff at Lavendar Lodge for making our stay a memorable one.
Hope to see you again soon!!
