I'll be frank; If you are looking for a 5 star resort with a spa and all your creature comforts, then this is definitely not for you.
What ND Divers is, is a unique expererience, living like the locals of Bum Bum Island. This accomodation is a `house on stilts in the sea'. It used to be a `kelong' which is a platform/wooden building built in the sea used for fish rearing and fishing. ND Divers has since converted this kelong into an accomodation with around 8-9 rooms. Each room can accomodate 2 guests.
It is simple accomodation, so do not expect any frills. But it is clean and comfortable. There are no ensuite bathrooms, instead there are 4 shared bathrooms. Water pressure is good and hot water is available for the showers. The piped water is fresh water (not salt water, which you may get in other places) and is very clean. bathrooms have shampoo and shower cream, should you have forgotten to bring your own.
Although there is no air conditioning in any of the rooms, the electric fans and opening your window is enough to keep you cool and comfortable for a good nights sleep. During the day (if you are not out snorkelling) you can sleep in the hammocks in the common area, which has a nice breeze.
Electricity is available 24 hours a day (some similar type of accomodation rely on petrol generators to supply electricity, and therefore sometimes only have electricity for several hours per day). There is a small fridge in the corridor with some can drinks which you can purchase.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Momo, the manager, gave us a brief tour of the place and made sure we settled in well. ND, the owner, goes around and meets with all the guests to make sure we feel at home. The other staff quietly go about their duties efficiently.
3 meals are provided each day - breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are cereals, bread, fried eggs and sausages for breakfast. Lunch is usually packed for your day out snorkelling or diving. Dinner is the main meal with lots of good food. Hot and cold water, coffee & tea, and biscuits are available free-flow all day in the common area.
The diving trips were good. The crew were quite flexible. We were taken to 3 spots per day for diving/snorkelling from just around ND Divers, to Kapalai & Mabul island, and even as far as Bohey Dulang, Mantabuan & Sibuan Islands. Dandy, the dive master, was patient and never hurried us. And he's an excellent spotter!
Our kids enjoyed themselves as well. I was a bit concerned that they might be bored stuck in an accommodation with no land around them. But I was wrong. They enjoyed the whole experience, especially the diving trips! Amzah took good care of them. Also there were lots of friendly cats around for them to play with!
A very pleasant experience. I would have given a 5 star rating. However if I did, there would be some person expecting fluffed up pillows, air conditioning, bath tub with aromatherapy, spa etc. etc. who would be disappointed.
