We stayed for 3 nights during CNY. Our room was spatious, with 2 large king size beds, furnished with some old-looking Chinese-looking cabinets (I am no art historian) and a club chair. It would be good to have some chairs and a table in the room as well. The room was a little bit too dusty but otherwise reasonably clean, above asian standard - bed linen and towels were clean, white and not washed out. Bathroom was clean and basically ok, except that the sink had a leak but it was located in the shower (don't understand this concept at all but it is apparently common in this part of the world) so it didn't represent a major problem because the leaked water just went off through the shower drain. We would appreciate to have a board or some shelves around the sink in order to have a place for all our tooth brushes, toothpaste, deodorants, etc. Also a facility for drying swimsuits would be helpful. Our room (Lilac) didn't have a balcony and the view was to a messy yard. On the 3rd floor there is a terrace with a nice view to the near "floating mosque" and to the sea. Every morning we got waken up by the praying from the mosque but the guy was singing really well and in tune, not like where we live... Breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee/milo, a toast, a bit of butter, a sausage, and a scrambled egg. Simple, good, tasty and enough to start your day. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated a few meters from the sea and you can reach the shore from the yard using the backdoor - you just have to pass another (slummy) house located between the hotel and the shore. However there is no beach, just muddy shore with lots of garbage, dead fish etc. and all sewage from the slum area flows into the sea there. So not good to bath, we rather took our car and went a few km to Batu Ferringhi where we found a cosy bay. You can also easily reach all the main Penang attractions from there. Overall we got what we expected and paid for and it was a pleasant CNY stay in Penang.
