I'm going to tell you about the hotel first, then about my personal experience. This hotel was the final destination, at the end of a 12 day tour in Morocco. It was so nice to be in a comfortable, western style accommodation. We are talking a huge room, king size bed, big soaking tub, and lux products. Thick towels. In-house spa with mani/pedi and hammam massage options. Enormous buffet breakfast with regional items you might see all over the country.
All of these things are expected in Casablanca, at this price point. What sets the Hotel Val d'Anfa apart from the pack is the incredible service and kindness from the staff.
The morning I was supposed to leave, I had a medical emergency. I was alone, the rest of my group had departed the day before, and I had settled in for a day of solitude. As I experienced this medical emergency, I went to the front desk and explained to them I needed to go to the hospital.
At the desk, there is always someone who speaks fluent English, as well as French and Arabic, and probably many other languages. That was bonus number one. The rest, however, was pure human kindness and the hospitality that I experienced all over Morocco. The staff made sure I got into a petite taxi. It gets even better.
The hotel has a nurse on staff, her name is Wafaa, talked to me about what was happening. Wafaa stuck by my side the entire time, she accompanied me to the hospital, she made sure I went to the correct places, and she was literally my medical interpreter. Wafaa even carried my bag, which was quite heavy. I had insisted on taking it with me, in case I had to stay at the hospital. I would never have made it past the front desk at the hospital, had it not been for her. i am incredibly grateful for Wafaa, she cared for me as if I was family. My gratitude and love for her and her kindness is immense, and I will never forget it.
I was also accompanied by Jamila, who is in charge at the front desk. Jamila also never left my side. She was the calm in my medical storm. Both Jamila and Wafaa escorted me to the hospital, made sure I was okay, both emotionally and physically. She stayed with me while Wafaa was making sure that my case was handled in an expedient manner. Jamila is a very sweet and kind momma bear, she made sure I didn't worry, and kept me from having a complete panic attack. During my time of need, she talked to me, we became friends. The love, kindness and friendship she gave me in my time of need was unexpected, and I am so incredibly grateful for her motherly kindness and love. I will never forget how the hotel, and especially Jamila and Wafaa, extended love and hospitality to a complete stranger. This is a lesson for all of us.
I was able to fly home as scheduled. This was miraculous, and would never have happened, had it not been for this amazing group effort, with the Jamila and Wafaa leading the way. Moroccan culture puts family first, above all. It is this value, along with the hospitality, that differentiates their culture and country from any other I have been to. I am forever grateful, and in their debt.
Please, if you decide to visit Casablanca, I very highly recommend the Hotel Val d'Anfa, a lovely hotel by the ocean, with comfortable rooms, gorgeous views, and love, kindness and hospitality that emanates from everywhere in this hotel. Thank you.
