We decided to stay here for one night and to take up the offer of a free wine tasting that the vineyard offers.
Firstly the room. The view over the vineyard is lovely. One side of the lodge is all glass with two large doors opening out onto a balcony, so you get to see the gardens and part of the vineyard from your room. It was lovely to go to sleep seeing the distant twinkle of lights from the nearby village and then to wake up the next day to the sun shining through the mist. The bedroom is all wood and there is a massive double bed, the most comfortable bed that we slept in so far on our trip around Myanmar. Fresh fruit was provided in the room, along with a stocked mini bar including full bottles of wine made at the Vineyard. The bathroom is large with a good rain shower and all the usual amenities that you require.
You have to choose your breakfast the night before from a choice of 5 items. I choose the Shan Noodle Soup which was delicious, it was so tasty that when I was offered a second bowl I quickly said yes. My wife had scrambled eggs with veg and toast. You get water, coffee and fruit with your breakfast. The restaurant also has incredible views over the garden area and vineyard. After breakfast we were given a tour of the vineyard.
We did the wine tasting in the evening before our dinner. You get to sample 4 different wines that are grown and produced at the vineyard. The waiter explained each wine and was able to answer our questions. This was followed by a good meal. For two courses and a bottle of wine it cost 42,000 Kyats which is very good value.
The only downside to the lodges is the fact that to get to the restaurant you have to walk along a dark stretch of road, so remember to take the torch from your lodge with you. We forgot but were provided with one to help us find our way back.
Overall the lodge is a good place to stay and experience the wines of Myanmar.
