Solitaire Country Lodge

We called in for fuel and the famous apple pie but oh it’s so much more. Antonio and his team couldn’t be more welcoming. Beautiful accommodation in a stunning location. Fat bikes available for a tour round the property. Antonio then took us and other guests for sundowners at perhaps the best 360 panorama I’ve ever seen. Simply stunning. We will be back!

We stayed at the camping and it was fine, except that there was sometimes a bad smell. The next day we looked for the source and it is the septic tank of the hotel It is about 100 meter from the camping. .It has to be closed better. The sanitation is basic, but adequate. The service and the food at the restaurant were very good.

I arrived mid afternoon after a marathon gravel road drive through interesting scenery and was exhausted- imagine my delight to discover that the simple room without tv or fridge had the A/C already operating- pretty important when the temperature outside was 34Centigrade! - I sprayed against bugs and plugged my anti mosquito machine in and went to the restaurant for a beer and dinner. Imagine my delight to find tap beer by the half litre! Nice dinner with super sunset through the trees and a restful nights sleep. Breakfast the next day was surprisingly good with an omelette and bacon- this place is a real find, including the 60’s car wrecks which haven’t deteriorated due to the lack of moisture I would stay again

This lodge complex miles from anywhere is a delightful place to stay for our 2 night touring holiday. The 1st thing you see when you arrive are broken vehicles politly located around the complex, and at 1st you believe that they are perhaps broen down ande left to rot, but the more you study them then you get the impression that they are a lodge attraction. That all said & done the life around the complex consists of a petrol station, bakery, small shop, restraurant, a small swimming pool, and the chalet type rooms. The rooms themselves are basic c/w WIFI, safe, and aircon, but again no room fridge which I find really strange in a hot climate where peoples leave early each morning to visit the desert sites meaning that you have to buy your water the night before, and leave the bottles in your room to gently warm up. I cannot complain about the food, staff nor the bar prices, and it was nice just to relax over a cold beer before, during & after your meal

Ok, so this is not a luxury resort. The pillows aren’t great, the rooms are terribly lit, the food is average and the pool is small. Despite this we thought it was BRILLIANT. Apart from camping (which I hate), this really felt as if you were close to nature. The large rooms are around the pool (very clean and refreshing) and have nice sit-out areas. There is a well-stocked shop, a garage, a bakery and a restaurant, as well as the rooms. Lovely birds and small wild life around, as well as the desert which seems to go on forever. Whatever else you do you should go to see the cheetahs - a breath taking experience.
