Vondelhof Guesthouse

After a very long flight, this accommodation we found, disappointing. Our room was small and quite dark and the location we thought fairly dubious. There was a supermarket with a fairly limited stock reasonable close by but as we did not want to go into town we were offered a couple of takeaway menus. Breakfast was fine, the staff were friendly but I would want to be closer to town if I returned. We were booked in at the beginning of a safari so really had no choice.

It seems like everything about this place has already been said in other reviews: clean, comfortable rooms, good location, basic breakfast, easy connection to Joe's Beerhouse. So let me add just one pleasant surprise: when we arrived, the staff had apparently figured out that it was our 6-year old son's birthday. So they came out with a big birthday pancake with chocolate sprinkles and a candle on top! You just can't put a price on things like that, but it tells you a lot about how this place is run.

I wish there was a trip advisor rating between average and very good as I would have rated Vondelhof as Good. We stayed here in May for the first two nights of our 5 week trip around Namibia and Botswana. Great location, secure parking, clean room, lots of choice at breakfast. Staff were very friendly and very very helpful. After travelling for more than 36 hours we just wanted food and a shower, the lovely lady on reception ordered pizza on our behalf from Debonairs, a couple of cold beers went down a treat too. We couldn't have a shower as a water main had burst in a near bystreet, but thats life and nothing anyone could do. It was restored by the next morning and all was well. A taxi was ordered from a local gentleman they use on a regular basis, he was great, friendly and helpful. Windhoek is a lovely city, we went for long a walk and felt totally safe. There are some beautiful buildings. I wish we'd had a bit more time to explore. All the Namibians we met on our travels were so friendly, polite and helpful, Vondelhof set the tone for the whole trip around Namibia. We would stay at Vondelhof Guest house if/when we visit Namibia again.

It was a mistake to plan a stop in Windhoek and at Vondelhof! Windhoek is no attraction at all! This was information we received from Namibian's before coming here, and they were right. The time in Windhoek was a waste of time and Vondelhof didn't compensate at all. The rooms are very dark with no view at all. No zircon and a fan which could only be switched on or off. The best moment was when we left!

We stayed there for 3 days this time. Previously a couple of days each time. Clean comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. Good breakfast, friendly staff. Close to city centre and knowledable re restaurants. Airport taxi, but extra.
