Overall, this is a real cultural immersion with some western influences.  This is not for the 'luxury' tourist type.  Ideal for young (or young at heart) experience -driven types.  This is best described as cabin camping. Pro's:  the food is amazing!  Lunch/dinner are Indian/Nepalese dishes.  Breakfast was omelets, pancakrs, potatoes,  yogurt, cereal, fruit.  Coffee is classic Nescafe Instant.  Opt for the Masala tea.  spice fan?  Use the green chili sauce on the table.  Very flavorful and just the right amount of heat for the average spicy lover. Rooms are quaint with high powered ceiling fans with only high speed settings, multiple outlets with varying adapter needs.  Bottled potable water included in the room.  Beds are like futon mattresses on wood.  Some of our crew who had a 3rd bed doubled the mattresses.  Mosquito netting as well but we didn't need it as it was late November.  There is hot water and the shower room is combined with toilet.  Be patient waiting on hot water (5-10 min).  Shampoo provided is an interesting dark color but smells great and worked fine.  No conditioner but both bar soap and liquid soap.  Recommend hand sanitizer even after using soap for handwash. Souvenirs are available and reasonably priced.  All made by locals.  Bikes available but not recommended for anyone not used to riding on gravel/sand/rock.  Roads are not paved.  Volleyball is available and locals are quick to join in.  WiFi in community room only and limited to few logins.  Everyone is very friendly and the kids are exceptionally excited to see tourists. Cons:  cash only!  No WiFi in room.  Allergies can be problematic.  Sleep can be challenging on hard surface.  refrain from excess toilet paper use.

While the food was excellent and the village was quite quaint (authentic Nepal), the beds are not for those with "broken bodies". The mattress was essentially just a really hard surface, which might not work for bad backs, hips, and sciatica. Also, there is a lot of potentially wasted, cold water before the warm/hot water appears - in fact, you might be done with your shower by then. Love the concept of the families directly benefiting from you staying in their cottage!

The community homestay was a highlight of my trip to Nepal. The local community were so friendly and delightful. It was an amazing experience staying as part of community and seeing everyday community life occurring around you. Accommodation was basic but part of the experience. We attended a cooking lesson which was fantastic, a tour of national park and saw rhino up close, village bike ride and walk with a very passionate and proud local man. We also were able to visit and eat with a local family. We were greeted with flowers by the village and had a great cultural dance one night. Great food and amazing experience of farming, village life and the wildlife in this area.

A wonderful sanctuary in the heart of Barauli and it’s community. Everyone so friendly and staff are brilliant; leaving you to do what ever you like during your stay. Food is outstanding and accommodation perfect for the location. This is a great opportunity to spend time immersed in local life and to see the wildlife of Chitwan National Park. A cycle around the village culminating in a sunset accompanied by masala tea and biscuits by the river is idyllic. Village orientation walks are also worthwhile. The highlight of the stay was the safari into the stunning Chitwan National Park. This stay is a must during your visit to Nepal!

We spent 2 nights at the Barauli Community Homestay. There was a nice variety of activities, we did a community bike ride to a sunset view on the river. Also a safari, saw rhinos. The little cabins were comfy with en suite bath and a great porch to sit and watch the world go by. They cook meals to order and there is a local traditional dance show at night. The staff was very attentive and wanted to make sure that you enjoyed yourself.
