We cannot praise this hotel enough, it is just what we wanted to have: a bit old-fashioned hotel, a friendly hotel keeper, a wonderful (but small) room in the motel annex and a small hotel café and a good dinner in a wild and romantic scenery. Even if a traveler does not want to stay overnight in this hotel it is worth to make a detour just to have teatime in the café. Extremely well done, family Hjelle. Thank you.

Hjelle Hotel is an old family owned hotel, located right by the fjord Oppstrynsvatnet, surrounded by tall mountains. The garden surrounding the hotel is nice to relax in, and is filled with red currant bushes (wish the hotel would use these delicious berries in their restaurants!) There is not much more around, except for the little café and crafts shop Gamlebutikken and a few other houses. That makes Hjelle a peaceful and quiet place. The hotel has charming rooms, but expect no luxurious standard. The owners offer friendly service and really seem to care about their guests. The food is really good, and the view from the restaurant is great. The price is relatively high, but acceptable.

Best location in Norway and great staff. The rooms are affordable if you choose the annex. The dinner is very good and the breakfast as well. The main building is historical and cozy, and the views are amazing. Close to the hotel there are endless mountain hikes to go on and glaciers to visita. There is also the Stryn summer ski resort, as well as a via ferrata and bouldering nearby.

Hjelle is a very special small village located below glaciers and on the fjord, a beautiful spot. The Hjelle Hotel oozes character and old world charm and its location on the edge of the water is postcard perfect. We stayed in one of the annexe rooms which was on the small side, however fine for one night and very comfortable. The set menu dinner was delicious and if staying here I would recommend booking it as in reality you have no other dining options in the villages, breakfast was also delicious with gorgeous views over the water, hosts were warm and friendly. A great stay.

Nice place. The settings are fantastic, a lake surrounded by mountains. We stayed in the original part of the hotel (there's a newer concrete addition). A nice contrast between an old-fashioned room and a new modern bathroom. Our room had a cozy sitting area. It faced the road which at first was a concern regarding street noise. But it turned out to be fine. We slept with open windows and it was absolutely quiet thru the night. Breakfast was good. It's a bit pricey at NOK 1850 for what you get hence the 4-star rating.
