The hotel makes a point of being friendly for motorcyclists. They offer a range of services aimed specifically for this. There is also a range of recommended motorcycle roads in the area, and they provide information about these.

I rented a motorcycle from Speed MC in Sandefjord and took a day ride into Telemark. I didn't have any plan, just ride out and enjoy the scenery. I had just ridden over a mountain pass and came to the lake and it was time for lunch. I pulled in to the Strand where I had a very nice lunch on the terrace looking over the lake. The owner, (5th generation!) Lars Arne Straand, served me and briefed me on his new venture, as a motorcycle tour hub partnered with Speed MC the Suzuki BMW dealer in Sandefjord. Lars gave me a return route to Tonsberg following the Telemark Canals which I loved. This would be a great place to tour, great roads and nice hosts.

This hotel has seen better days. Most of the staff were very friendly but the facilities were well outdated and in no way representative of the price for rooms and meals offered. Our family room was without a view but was OK maintained. However, all common areas such hallways looked like they could use a deep cleaning as the dust in the carpet corners were visible to the naked eye. For the prices on offer July 2020 I must conclude that this was little value for money.

Beautiful Hotel with a glance of the past. You can see the history in the buildings. Had a nice room for 4 persons and a dog. The breakfast was good but the price for the evening meal or the food in the bar was too high.

I spent one night in Straand hotel. It can not be recommended. I had a single room. It was dark and depressing, faced the backyard and was extremely basic and overprized. The presentation of the hotel diverged very much from what I met. Never again.
