That review is a 4.25 but since I'm still feeling a Boracay hangover, I'll round up. I stayed here with some colleagues over the weekend and I really appreciated it. The luxury is understated. The rooms and bathroom are aesthetically pleasing. Water pressure is great for washing beach detritus off. Airconditioning is great. It's both easy and hard to locate, I'll explain that later. About the beds: there were four of us in the room and I stayed in the lower bunk of a bunk bed. The cushion on the softer side of firm - just how I prefer it. A lot of pillows, also the right softness. My only small issue about the beds were that the lower bunks tend to get too dark because of the room's low ambient lighting, but it's nothing a small reading lamp would do wonders for. That said, that's the most gorgeous sleep I've ever had on a bunk bed, ever. Here's the .75 I deducted: wifi was not available in our room. I saw the router at the reception desk at the hallway, but I'm mildly convinced that the wifi signal only reached the room in front of the front desk. It looks like we came at a bad time, however. Road repairs were full tilt during our stay. On our first day, in fact, the entire building was vibrating with the heavy equipment. But I'm not taking that away from them. The repair works were probably part of the reason, too, why it was a bit difficult to spot their signage. That aside, on a normal day, I still think that spotting that little sign on that small alleyway along the main road is a tough order. Anyway, what makes it easier to spot is the fact that it is located just across the road from a couple of Boracay institutions: Obama Grill and Club Paraw. That should make it much easier to spot. Location was convenient, it's beside a couple of budget eateries and a well-stocked convenience store. Just cross the road and a small alley and you're on the sand already.

The hotel is one the third floor of a long passageway and the rooms are dark. But as soon as you walk in there are very good details and the whole harmony of the space is excellent. The beds are large and very comfortable. The location is at as well with a nice place for breakfast just across the street and an excellent beach bar right next to it to watch the sunset. Will definitely stay here next time!

What you see in the photos is how the rooms actually look like. We got the bunker room with four queen beds. The bed was high quality and firm just what I need for my bad back. The location is excellent just near Obama grill which I think is very affordable with great food. The beach location in front of the Obama grill is I think the best location as well in Station 1. If you will go to Boracay stay at Station 1. The white sheets are very clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again and again. The only improvement that I can suggest is the wifi connection, it could be a lot better, but other than that our stay has been excellent. Better than I imagined it would be. I don"t think you will find a better, well thought of hotel room theme in Bora for the price.

Sol y Sombra is located at the 3rd floor so travelling with a luggage and some equipment were quite a hassle because you have to carry everything by stairs. Their staff were very attentive and was there to carry some stuff for us (we brought a lot so we still end up carrying some for ourselves – this we don’t mind, but still exhausting on our part). They have a narrow hallway but the choice of tiles and fixtures kept up for it. Breakfast is excluded/ optional BUT there are a lot of restaurants when you go downstairs. They also don’t have any common place or a lounge for you to unwind so when you take out your food, you just have to eat it inside your room. You can borrow plates from them and also request for hot water. We booked all their rooms for two nights (with family and friends) so I get the chance to have a peek on all of their rooms: 301 – my family and I were specifically booked at room 301 which has two beds (1-double & 1-single). No complaints whatsoever and felt like it was sound proofed. Slept well even if the reception desk is right in front of our door and near the stairs. 302 – has 1 matrimonial bed, which is good for couples. This room is adjacent to room 301 303 – also has 2 beds but has an awkward bed layout (book for 301 instead if you are 2-3 people) 304 & 305 – Recommended for large groups Website photos were “AS-IS”. Choice of furniture up to its last minute details and accessories, I can tell were really well thought of. Beds were comfortable. Linens and towels were VERY CLEAN. I don’t have any bad comments about their T&B, it’s well kept. They do have new fixtures, a hot shower plus complimentary shampoo and soap. Our stay was very relaxed. Would definitely recommend to everybody who wants a good night's rest.

The hotel exceeded our expectations! Very clean rooms, exceptional staff ready to answer all questions and provide help when needed, and excellent location at station 1. Its on the third floor and the staff is willing to help with all luggage. I felt very secure here at the hotel and in Boracay in general with all the police and security around the island. The hotel is right next to the beach which is perfect as we could easily come and go to the beach as we please. Would happily book again!😀
