This hotel has a restaurant in it and it is fantastic! You can eat outside right next to the old water mill with the sound and view of the water passing under the old stone moss covered bridge. The food, OMG the food! We had Petiscos Baccalhau (3.50€) as a starter which were the best we have had in the last 2 weeks in Portugal (and we have had a lot!). For the main we had grilled octopus and veal in mushroom sauce - both were a slightly different take on the usual traditional food and were absolutely delicious! The starter, 2 mains and dessert (together with the very nice white vinho verde, salad, soft drinks and coffee) it came to a total of 40€ for the two of us. On top of that, the service was excellent! The waiter, the owners’ son, was very nice, attentive and speaks fantastic English. He and kitchen were also very attentive to our dietary needs. All in all, location, service, food, price - all 5*!

From reading the website and being excited to stay here, I can report a somewhat lukewarm experience. The setting is awesome. You drive a narrow winding road to an isolated group of stone homes. Each is fitted with living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. They are spacious. You get a hearty breakfast in the communal hall and can opt for a fairly-priced full dinner if you choose. Or, just shop and eat in. The area itself is great. A peaceful stream bubbles through the property and a 40-minute loop walk winds around a lake. Very relaxing! The unit we stayed in needed a major refresh. Pant was peeling, the couch was very tattered and the sheets well used. The shower leaked into the kitchen below! The owner said not to worry, that's normal. It seemed that someone has a great idea, build this nice rural community and then perhaps ran out of money? The people on staff are super friendly. Wifi available in the restaurant area.

We stayed here in December. Each evening when we returned from our daytrip we found the fire in the house was already burning. Breakfast was great. Aswell as the dinners we had in te resraurant. Even in winter the surroundings are beautiful! We spotted the dipper in the stream next to the house.

Despite being located near some villages and cities, this is a remote place. With almost no traffic signs, the only destination nearby that can helps to locate it is the “Barragem da Queimadela” (Queimadela Damn). Better try with GPS but after Pontido you have to insert Queimadela – otherwise you´ll never get here. Ancient roads, no signs... well that´s the worst part. After getting there the place is fantastic – mainly cause of the natural environment. The sound and the nature by the river are the landmark of the place. You can walk around, there are some marked trails – not much else to do. Nice restaurant, a bit expensive by local standard, with traditional food. The service can be slow but in a place like that who cares... you have plenty of time. A place to relax, to enjoy good food and have a taste how people lived in the old days. Fortunately globalization has not reach this place.

My stay at Aldeia do Pontido was just perfect! You can relax, read a book while hearing the sound of the stream... I walked around and took hundreds of photos in the streams, to animals, to flowers... Every house has it's own kitchen so we prepared our meals there. The breakfast was very good... So, do not hesitate if you are not sure if you should go to Aldeia do Pontido or not. And the price... excellent! For me, the price of one night is at least 50% lower than the real value of the property! A perfect choice!!!
