Just returned from Bahia Resort Hotel after being moved from Spain by Tui. Arrived 11.15am and we were a group of 9incl 18month old, and check in was 30 mins as 4 rooms to sort. We asked for high floor, and got a 3rd floor out of 4 looking out onto the mountains and estuary. Upon reflection these rooms were better than over the pool, as afternoon sun and no noise from bar area. Rooms 348 to 354 were lovely views. Rooms aren't suites but very big, with 2 teles, 1 in the lounge sofa bed area and dividing door if needed. Fridge, stove and pots n pans, no kettle but a pan to boil water.( we took a kettle). Cleaned daily and new towels. Bed was hard but others liked the beds. Free safe and a/c in our room but others didn't work. Now these are Covid times, so 1 restaurant was closed as not enough people so the green restaurant was open, and breakfast was ok sausage, egg, bacon, etc but couldn't touch anything, so all your food was served onto your plate, even the bread. It was ok once you got used to it. Coffee was awful, and fruit juice machines. We found a fresh orange machine near to the beer counter. Lunch was ok and even had kebabs which req microwaving to heat up. Ice cream in tubs and lots of cakes/ cheese n biscuits etc. Superbock or wine. Evening meal was ok too, 2 soups, lots of salads to choose but had to point which one, same with the meats and veg. Plenty of fish options. Agree with all reviews as not hot enough, so sometimes microwaved. Staff all over the Hotel were really nice except reception as not very helpful, bar staff very good and restaurant staff excellent. Entertainment hit n miss, parrot show for kids, then some nights poor singers, but we had England playing 2 nights. Pool area nice, and hotel not full, so plenty of sun beds. The pool is massive over 100mts long and 1.4mts deep. Bar area is a wooden hut outside and worked ok, masks to get served. 15min walk to Alvor all downhill, and 4/5 e in taxi or the free shuttle bus every 15mins was excellent. Taxi to praia du rocha was 9e. Overall, even in Covid times for everyone we had a nice stay and staff kept things clean. Not a 4*platinum in my opinion.

Spent a week here from 3rd May. We could not fault anything in this complex. From the moment we checked in till we left all the staff were amazing in what was a difficult situation. We flew from Bristol arriving in Faro to discover the U.K. government had changed Portugal from the “Green list to Amber”. As self isolation wasn’t a problem for us we decided to stay put and we are so glad we did. The staff were forever cleaning & politely reminded guests that masks needed to be worn where necessary. Our room was a suite, which gave us added space which included a kitchenette & seating area plus a good size patio area. The swimming pool area was well laid out, with plenty of room to move around. The bar area around the pool was well staffed, and really looked after the guests. Now I have to mention the food- this was fantastic, on the seven day holiday I ate a different fish dish every lunch & evening meal. So much choice of other dishes. Everything beautifully laid out , served by restaurant Staff so no contamination. Not a fly in sight. I even managed to meet the head chef to pass on our thanks, and for those guests who like there food over hot, they even supply a microwave. The one issue we did have was a failure with our room door, which as they were unable to rectify the situation they gave us another room and even offered to assist with the packing.

We have just returned from an 11-night stay at the Alvor Baia Hotel. It was a nice hotel but not necessarily a 4-star Platinum as sold to us. The hotel lobby is huge, bright and very clean. The reception staff are very welcoming. In fact, all the staff from the bar staff to kitchen staff, cleaners to animation team are all really lovely and welcoming. The rooms were huge with a large balcony, perfect for a family of 4 like us. The towels were changed, and beds made every day. However, the floors of the room and balcony were not swept or mopped once during our stay which was a bit disappointing. The rooms do not provide tea and coffee making facilities, so after looking at other reviews, we decided to take a kettle. The food was great, lots of choices, usually 4 choices of meat dishes and 4 fish dishes. Sadly, it was let down by the temperature. The food was only ever lukewarm. I noticed that they weren't using hot plates, but heat lamps instead. I am surprised none of us got ill on holiday. I also noticed that there were barely any vegetarian choices, they even put ham through the scrambled eggs in the morning and many of the salads contained fish. So maybe not a great choice of hotel if you're a vegetarian. Drinks were the usual local drinks, soft drinks and wines. The local beer, Super Bock was really nice to taste. The entertainment team were fantastic and a highlight of my daughter’s holiday! They carried out loads of activities during the day, crafts, games and quizzes. She loved it! They were really engaging with all the children. They also did Mini Disco in the evenings at 8:30 which all the kids, young and old enjoyed. After mini disco, there was usually a singer which was quite nice, but we had usually gone to bed by then as we had a little one with us. The music went off around 23:30 so you could get a fairly good sleep if you were situated near the bar area. The grounds of the hotel were lovely. The gardens were kept beautifully. There was a long path that ran round the top of the hotel on a hill, which most of the parents putting their babies and toddlers to sleep took advantage of. The hotel ran a free bus service to the beach which ran quite regularly throughout the day. The beach is stunning, loads of space, lots of beds to hire, some areas with hammocks and wind shields which is great for the little ones to relax out of sun. They cost around 15-20 EUROS for the day. The kids play park was also a great hit with the children. It gave them a chance to have a break from the water and something else to do in the evenings once the mini disco had ended. We did notice that the black floor tiles were in quite a mess. There were huge gaps between them, so the children kept tripping up on them. This is something that needs addressing by the hotel. Next to the park was a huge green which some of the older kids loved playing football on. The grounds of the hotel, including Alvor town itself is very hilly. So, it’s not somewhere I would recommend to visit if you had mobility issues. We were also required to pay for extras, such as ice-creams and the safety deposit box. For a 4-star hotel, you would expect to at least have these included. That was a bit of a let-down. The pool was huge. It ran right across from one side of the hotel to the other so even though the hotel was very busy, there was plenty of room to swim without getting bashed over the head by a floaty! The one thing that let the pool down and the hotel, and what many other customers agree with me, was the cleanliness of the pool area. The floors were never washed down so you would see spilt drinks and ice-creams from the day before. We usually had sunbeds towards the back, near the toilet area and there were plastic cups, cigarette butts and ice-cream wrappers all strewn across the gardens that was never picked up by the cleaners. The tables were never wiped down either as we would see the same ice-cream/drinks stains from the day before. This let the hotel down massively. Also, during a pandemic, you would expect the beds to be cleaned or sprayed each day. This was not the case. So, you’d know you would be lying on a bed that had been sweated on by someone else the day before. The cleanliness of the hotel is impeccable, I just wish they had carried this on outside so you could have a clean area to lay the next day. We took anti-bac wipes with us so were able to clean our area before laying down, but this should not be our responsibility in a 4-star hotel. During a pandemic, I think the hotel was doing it’s best, but the cleanliness of external areas definitely needs addressing.

Just returned from a 2 week stay, all started well but on my 30th birthday (2nd week) they decided they wanted to charge me €150 for apperently dying their towels with my hair dye! Not being funny but I cant be the only guest they have had with red hair and they should know that semi perm hair dye does come out in the wash. They showed me the towels I apperently damaged and there was NOTHING wrong with them. Because we refused to pay, the manager (who basically said you damage, you pay and then run away lol) said noone will clean your room until you leave so we had a 6 months old baby with no clean towels or bedding - AND its so important for things to be cleaned due to covid. After calling Tui helpline they were forced into dropping us towels for the baby. Lets just say, it completely ruined our holiday and my 30th, the manager was so rude and needs some management training asap - I honestly think they are trying to get money off anyone as they are clearly struggling to stay afloat. Live singers every night (hit and miss and repeat every week) and then no other entertainment other than a 30 minute parrot show but they then want you to buy the pictures of them all night. Food was DISCUSTING, we ate out most the time so id advise anyone staying to do self catering. Only positive is that we were abroad, the guests were brilliant and had many laughs and the local towns are lovely...oh and Baia, please to god, clean around the pool the floor is discusting - picking up rubbish isnt good enough it needs a really good wash (ants everywhere) We will not be back!!!! THIS WAS THE EXAMPLE THEY GAVE ME OF THE TOWELS I DAMAGED lol

Visited for a week in June whilst the country was in an Amber state . The first thing to say about this hotel is that whoever is in charge of recruitment and training here has done a first class job . EVERY member of staff we met was polite , professional , welcoming and happy to help . The hotel is obviously suffering from restrictions during Covid , but it does not show. Cleaners were everywhere sanitising , floor washing , polishing . I felt completely safe in this hotel. The pool bar toilets were inspected regularly , there were 17 checks between 15:10 and 21:00 they were clean and well stocked although the auto ligh switches could do with being made longer . The lights automatically go off after about 6 seconds and then you need windmill arms to turn them on again!!! The animation team worked hard , there were always activities on . Entertainment every night , singers , parrot shows , DJ's etc I notice someone complained in their review that their bedroom floors were not washed , it was the opposite with us , the floors of the suite were mopped 3 times during the week , the suite was spotless. I understand that every room is a suite at this hotel , large bedroom with ample storage space , air con that could cause hypothermia if you let it, full bath in bathroom with a very powerful shower , loads of hot water and a bidet for cleaning your feet!!!! There is a seperate sitting room with a kitchen (very basic) , a bed settee , table and TV . Both rooms have access to the balcony which was 17 feet by 7 feet. I wish that I had taken a 4 gang extension socket with me as the supply is limited or hard to access in the room. Plenty of choice in the restaurant at least 4 meat and 4 separate fish dishes each day , plenty of fruit , nice desserts and brilliant salads . The meals are lukewarm but there is a microwave to heat them up again. One weird thing was that there were no hot drinks in the restaurant for Lunch and Dinner . I believe that this is because the continentals enjoy finishing these meals over a coffee , which of course means they take up a table for longer. Not a problem now but when the hotel is full , it appears that queues form waiting for a table . You can bring coffee in from the downstairs bar. Local spirits at the bar , not the best but OK with mixers , various other spirits such as a nice Baileys type drink were available on request. Beer was enjoyable There were always loads of sunbeds as the hotel was only 20% full , there was a free shuttle to the beach which is a 15min walk away. Taxis to alvor are $5, nice for a visit and a special meal out .
