Amazing boutique hotel. Peaceful, beautiful, intimate, with the attention to details like in the best places I stayed before. Couple of details: the breakfast usually held by the pool is served at the time you discuss the night before with AnaMarie. While it was prepared and served just for the two of us our room was cleaned. The breakfast included among other things home made yogurt, and raspberry and quiche preserves cooked from their own fruits. Nice and easy drive to Pinhao for Porto tastings. Amazing couples retreat!

This was a calm place to stay. We were in one of the apartments in the garden, which was modern inside. It consisted of a bedroom, shower room and large lounge area with dining table, small fridge and kettle...so we were able have a cuppa. The place is not labelled outside, except for a small sign with a tree logo...so we were concerned we'd come to the wrong place, but we're warmly welcomed. The bed was very comfy, the pool was great, and the grounds attractive and well kept. The bells from the church are audible from the room, as is traffic from the main road through the village...but we didn't find either to be a problem. Breakfast is served at a table in the poolhouse. We found it plentiful with yoghurt, fruit, croissant, eggs, jam, bread, cheese, ham, fruit juice tea and coffee. The evening eating out options in Britiande are limited...but we did try a restaurant called Stop which provided tasty food at reasonable price...not a tourist destination, but good food if you're prepared to go with their recommendations ...and rather large portions. Other reviews have eaten at the accommodation but we did not try this

When we were greeted by AnaMarie I couldn't hlep gawking at the gardens as we went to our room. The flowers were beautiful, there were globe artichokes on the plants and the flowering vies were fabulous. Every element of the breakasts were lovely--especially the home made yogurt, The hospitality of the hosts was amazing--and I loved the books and paitings in the units and in the manor house. We accepted the offer of having dinner made for us at the property one night and really enjoyed it. Met a lovely couple also staying at the property. The visit that Ana Marie set up for us with her freind Miguel for a private port tasing was fabuous, as was the bottle of wine and snacks were had out on the lawn with our hosts the night we just didn't feel like going out for a big dinner. I would go back in a heartbeat any time I had the opportunity.

We arrived at 2pm however they start check in at 3pm and there was literally no one at the guesthouse even to leave the bags with. We left and came back at 3. There was a maid who didn't speak a word of any language apart from Portuguese. She gave a key to the room and a drink that was it. Internet didn't work at all. Apparently there is no wi-fi at the common areas in general, but that day even the rooms were off). As we had loads of questions she connected me with an English speaker on the phone which was not too helpful. We didn't get any info on vineyard visits or dining options or anything else. I was just given a map of vineyards, that's it. So we had to figure everything out ourselves (teaming up with other guests who were also shocked by the hospitality) Every evening we had to "fix" the lights by the pool so we don't stay in complete darkness as there was no one to help, same with the main door which was almost impossible to open). At 9am there was still no breakfast. And when the breakfast was served it was very poor (the price was 115euros per night). The check out at this place is at 11am which we were not informed of in advance so it felt like they were kicking us out. In general the owner who arrived by the end of day two of our 3days stay was not very welcoming and friendly despite her smile. By the way, the worst toilet paper I've ever used in my life!! Sorry, but it's true... Having stayed at such a great house with a beautiful garden and swimming pool the impression is quite bad. Meanwhile the other guesthouse (4 mins drive away) where we didn't stay was taking a great care of us giving advice, helping with info, inviting to stay at their pool for free and offering free water.

We booked this place for 2 nights on the strength of past reviews. However, unlike others have commented we hardly saw the owners and did not benefit from any of the warm hospitality experienced. We certainly were not offered any other meal options apart from the included breakfast, which was plain and simple - fruit, yoghurt, bread, ham, cheese, preserves. Only just enough was set for the number of diners with no replenishment or anyone checking back to see if everything was ok or we needed anything. When we we arrived we weren't sure if we were at the right place as there is no name on the house and we couldn't find anyone. When we did we were shown to our room, location of pool and a lounge we could use by the husband who repeatedly told us about the key arrangements and that was it. This is a very old house furnished in a traditional style and decor. Our room in the main house was comfortable enough but quite ordinary and old fashioned. We had requested a shower and this was over the bath, which was fine except the ceiling was so low we couldn't fully stand in it. The grounds are lovely but as the house is close to the main road there is considerable traffic noise when sitting by the pool. However, my biggest gripe is there is nowhere to get any refreshments. All we had in our room was a flask of tap water; there were no tea and coffee making facilities and there was no option to buy any ype of drinks. When staying at B & Bs or small hotels elsewhere you usually find an honesty bar/fridge or similar. As a consequence we spent a lot of our time quite thirsty and had to walk down to the local garage several times to buy cold drinks and to remember to take some with us to the pool. Overall, we were disappointed wirh our stay and compared to other places we stayed in the Douro Valley felt it did not offer comfort or value for money. When we arrived
