We stayed one night as part of a cycle trip. When we got there, the receptionist couldn't locate the reservation for years. They didn't seem concerned about it or apologize when it was eventually found. Our room was a lovely grade room that looked out onto the square and had lots of space and character. A large bathroom, well-furnished with antiques, and a comfy large bed. However, the damp around one of the windows had just been painted, and the windows themselves were rotting in some places. A wedding reception was taking place on the square, and a live band played until midnight. The staff didn't tell us this out of respect or ask if we want a quieter room. The pool area was shabby, with wobbly old decking boards around it and murky looking water. There were no consideration given to the pool's 19 measures, such as sanitation and wiping the lounges. Breakfast was fairly good, but we anticipated much better for a hotel of this caliber. Fruit drink instead of fresh juice and coffee that is unbelievable. This is a beautiful building with stunning grounds and must upgrade its game.

We chose to stay in Monique for the weekend, and it was a pleasure. The property has been renovated and looks fantastic. Checking was quite quick and friendly, and the staff was essentially really helpful. The rooms and bathrooms were large and spotless. We had the prestige room, but it had a few damp spots that didn't smell! Which I believe is typical of the building age and lack of sunlight in the room. Monique can be extremely humid. Breakfast was just about adequate, but they could improve with more juice choices and bread selection.

Our only issue was a bad encounter with the manager at the alkaline bar. He was unhelpful and dissatisfied. I cannot recommend this bar. The place is very clean and the surroundings are beautiful. The room included breakfast, which was wonderful.

The hotel restaurant is cold and the menu is bland. But there are some very nice family run restaurants nearby with good food and very friendly service. The staff was very unhelpful and very miserable. I felt as if they didn't want guests at the hotel! Check-in was very slow and the bar staff were often non-existent. 1 female waitress was very friendly but she was definitely the exception. Superior room was a decent size. The heating didn't work and the room was recently renovated but damp.
