We stayed from 30th July to 6th August 2019. This hotel is not 4 star it would just make 2star. The worst 4star hotel I’ve had the misfortune to stay at. Don’t think the hotel has been refurbished since the 1970’s. Air conditioning system non existent, patrons outside lounge area was a field of synthetic grass with a few lounges thrown in. Hey had no ice for drinks on the Monday because the restaurant was closed. The paving in the walkway is upturned with loose cobbles. Filthy carpets in hallways. Rust all over outside of hotel. I paid over 109 € a night for room only. I feel as though I’ve been robbed. Do not book this hotel. Staff are very nice though ( I suppose they have to be )

I needed a break, and I chose to discover Porto. A colleague of mine had stayed in Porto at the Golden Tulip and loved it. He said it was easy to get to the old City, restaurants and the beach. On his recommendation, I booked it. I'm really happy that I did. My room was decorated in a classic style with Biedermeier inspired furniture. The bed was huge, the water perfect and the balcony very large. It was enclosed, as it can get windy! The breakfast was included in my booking and was delicious. Plenty of Portuguese delicacies were present as well as delicious sweets. Fresh orange and pear juices were perfect. Margarita at the front desk was exceptional. She was incredibly helpful and pleasant! The hotel takes the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously, which showed in every way. Safety for the guests was clearly the top priority for this hotel. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning.

Where do I start? No sink plugs - friends had no hot water in their room for 3 days - no milk for tea or coffee in our rooms - have to ask for a lock for your room safe - worst of all though was an abundance of dog/ cat poo in the open-air sitting area which I had to complain to get it cleaned up. Staff were friendly, particularly the duty managers who doubled up as bar staff as well. This is more of a 3 star hotel than a 4 star.

This is a very different review for me . All my reviews are constructive and happy . However, my booking at this hotel was cancelled like many others due to CoronaVirus . That indeed is nobody’s fault and certainly not the Golden Tulip . I have now been waiting patiently for my refund to appear back into my account and so far it’s been 42 days. I have emailed many times and keep getting strung along and asked for more time . I’m not an interest free loan to the Golden Tulip chain . This whole experience is extremely disappointing. Due to the delay and the lack of communication on their behave , I wouldn’t recommend. As for the hotel facilities, staff , location etc obviously I can not review , I can only go on my experience as stated above

The room was clean and quiet. The only thing a little off was the breakfast room and the food. The breakfast room seemed not to be kept as clean. There were 2 coffeemakers where only one seemed to make adequad coffee with ground beans. Both of them had seen better years. the Trays were hanging loosely - you had to hold your cup during brewing.
