We are well versed in the Algarve and find it really difficult to find an authentic, classy place to stay when we have to be in the area - but we finally found it in Mercedes Country House. It’s far enough from the tourist craziness of the algarve towns, but close enough to day trip to Tavira, Faro, Lagos, Silves etc. It’s a good base for exploring the area.
The house really does have a country feel set in orchards, with a roof top deck and a swimming pool/ lounger area.
The rooms are very spacious, the air con is amazing, tv has enough English channels (background noise) and the shower was great. There are tea and coffee facilities in the room, we called to ask for milk and it was brought promptly. The coffee station was not restocked though / minor issue but would have been nice.
There is seating outside on the garden.
Breakfast started at 9 which was quite refreshing for us to sleep in (I could imagine annoying if you have to leave early though). The usual spread, plus they made us omelettes and scrambled eggs as per request.
Our only observation was that noise travelled easily in the house, and that there was little privacy when sitting outside the room - the chairs are on top of the room next door, which was a little cozy for our liking.
We would definitely stay here again. We would have loved to try Miguel’s cooking but the circumstances did not allow.
